A big story for the coming year is not just the mid-term election, but how the growing Tea Party movement will affect the elections. MSNBC host Chris Matthews did his best to explore this issue, but revealed more about both his ignorance on the matter and his bias towards the group (derisively referring to them as “teabaggers.”) Of course, he was likely speaking in hyperbole – but that doesn’t make it less insensitive to those who are a part of the Tea Party movement.Text of the discussion (h/t Newsbusters:)
McKinnon: they are the movement — movements are about people that are angry at the institution and the establishment. so, yes, they’re republicans. they’re people who are out of power, they’re unhappy and the t.e.a. party’s become the vessel through which they’re fueling their anger.
Matthews: And they’re monochromatic right?
McKinnon: Well I don’t know that they’re monochromatic?
Matthews: They’re not? Every picture I see shows them to be.
McKinnon: Well there’s a lot of people out there that cuts across a lot of demographics who feel disenfranchised.
Matthews: But not that other demographic.
McKinnon: The other demographic?
Matthews: Meaning they’re all white. All of them, every single one of them is white.
McKinnon: I think that’s, I think that’s a fair characterization, predominately.
Matthews: Yeah well what’s tha about?
White liberals love for playing the race card isn't anything new. Indeed, whether it's global warming, health care or "gay rights", white liberals fondness for reaching for the race card when they're promoting their radically leftist agenda (that has little, if anything to do with helping blacks) has been going on for decades now (meanwhile, black liberals sit by and do nothing while their white brethren play them for fools). But then if Chris Matthews were that concerned about race, why doesn't it seem to bother him when he looks around at all the "white" faces at his own network (the ones on air Chris, not the ones in the mailroom)? Better yet, what does Matthews have to say about the brewing concern, that even black liberals have begun to express out loud, concerning Barry's lack of addressing the Black community's needs and and wants? I mean they did vote overwhelmingly for the man in the last election. C'mon Chris, doesn't that deserve some attention at your lily-white network?
