Obama Links Al Qaeda To Flight Terror Plot

CNN.com:
President Obama on Saturday linked the man accused in a botched Christmas Day airline bombing to an al Qaeda affiliate based in Yemen.

The president pledged that everyone involved in the attack would be held accountable. He also highlighted his administration's attempts to crack down on extremist enclaves in Yemen, and reiterated his longstanding promise to "disrupt, dismantle and defeat" al Qaeda.

Obama has been criticized by some political opponents for not responding more aggressively to a botched December 25 attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger jet en route from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Detroit, Michigan.

Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab is accused of trying to ignite explosives smuggled aboard the plane in his underwear. Obama confirmed Saturday that AbdulMutallab, 23, recently traveled to Yemen and "it appears that he joined an affiliate of al Qaeda."

Nice of Barry to get around acknowledging something that Al Qaeda told us already like a week ago. Good move too by Barry to do something Joe Lieberman passionately suggested already: target militants in Yemen. Barry and his leftists minions may have a hard time acknowledging it, but now only are we at war, but Barry's gonna have to get his George W. Bush-groove on in order to continue keeping Americans safe.

Birth Mother Must Give Child to Her Former Lesbian Partner, Vermont Judge Rules

ABCNews.com:

A Virginia woman who has been missing for more than a month with her daughter violated court orders to return her 7-year--old to her former lesbian partner today.

Lisa Miller, 41, of Winchester, Va., was ordered by a Vermont family court judge in November to hand over her daughter Isabella by 1 p.m. to Janet Jenkins , 45, of Fairhaven, Vt.

But according to Jenkins' lawyer, Miller failed to show up.

"Janet is quite distressed and she notified the police," said Sarah Star, Jenkins' Vermont lawyer. "She is concerned about Isabella's safety and Ms. Miller's mental stability."

Virginia's Fairfax County Police said they would await a court-ordered arrest warrant before offering to assist in the search for Miller, who was last heard from on a Dec. 4 Facebook posting.

The child is at the center of a landmark custody battle between two women she calls "Mommy," the first case to address same-sex unions when the parents cross state lines.

Miller and Jenkins were married in a civil union ceremony in Vermont in 2000. They split in 2004 when Isabella was 17 months old.

What this news report fails to acknowledge is that Lisa Miller saw the sin in her ways, came to find God and renounced homosexuality some years back. Ms. Miller doesn't seem to be suffering from problems regarding "mental stability" so much as she's most likely angry that a liberal judge has decided to take away the child that she gave birth to in order to be placed with a woman who continues to live an abhorrent, morally corrupt, un-Godly lifestyle. Conservatives regard this decision as child endangerment, while liberals no doubt only choose to see it through the scope of Ms. Jenkins "civil rights" being protected. But then for the Left it's never about what's best for the child.

Rush Limbaugh Lives, Liberals Angry

Like night follows day some of the Left aren't happy with this news:
Rush Limbaugh underwent a medical exam on Thursday after being rushed to a hospital on Wednesday complaining of chest pains.

"Walter Williams, the guest host on Limbaugh's radio show Thursday, told listeners that Limbaugh 'continues to rest very comfortably' at a hospital in Honolulu," reports nydailynews.com.

Since initial reports of Limbaugh's health, reaction from some of his detractors has been pretty pointed. Rob Kall at opednews.com wrote: "I'm a little embarassed to say that when the news alert flashed on my iPhone, I thought how nice it would be if the man (actually, I used an expletive relating to his mother) dropped dead...But is it hateful and intolerant for me to want him to die? Maybe it is. So be it."

A softer opinion was expressed by Rochelle Riley at freep.com who wrote: "People have been wishing that a loudmouth who's free to speak would die...[but]...To have America means having the Rush Limbaughs of the world. Stop wishing death on democracy."

Someone visiting Limbaugh's page at Wikipedia even prematurely declared the talk show host dead. His Wikipedia status has since been change back to "alive".

It's not easy being the #1 Conservative talk show host in America.

2009: A Political Review

As we usher in a new decade, just wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe New Years!

Obama Administration Received Warnings About Attempted Terrorist Attack

NYTimes.com:
The National Security Agency four months ago intercepted conversations among leaders of Al Qaeda in Yemen discussing a plot to use a Nigerian man for a coming terrorist attack, but American spy agencies later failed to combine the intercepts with other information that might have disrupted last week’s attempted airline bombing.

The electronic intercepts were translated and disseminated across classified computer networks, government officials said on Wednesday, but analysts at the National Counterterrorism Center in Washington did not synthesize the eavesdropping intelligence with information gathered in November when the father of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, now accused of the attempted bombing, visited the United States Embassy in Nigeria to express concerns about his son’s radicalization.

The father, a wealthy Nigerian businessman named Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, had urgently sought help from American and Nigerian security officials when cellphone text messages from his son revealed that he was in Yemen and had become a fervent radical.

A family cousin quoted the father as warning officials from the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency in Nigeria: “Look at the texts he’s sending. He’s a security threat.”

The cousin said: “They promised to look into it. They didn’t take him seriously.”

The new details help fill in the portrait of an intelligence breakdown in the months before Mr. Abdulmutallab boarded a plane in Amsterdam with the intent of blowing it up before landing in Detroit.

Now you know that if a "systematic failure" like this had occurred during the Bush years, the leftist media would take turns frying the GOP, and rightfully so. Of course, it's now coming out that the Bush Administration may have released two for Guantanamo Bay detainees that had something to do with the attempted Christmas Day bomb attack the other day and yet, Barry's still talking about closing Gitmo. This comes after Barry took 3 days to speak publicly on Abdulmutallab (while on vacation no less) and Janet Napolitano's pathetic "the system worked" response. Again, when you elect liberals to the highest offices in the land, don't be surprised at the consequences.

Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized With Chest Pains

CNN is now reporting that Limbaugh is "resting comfortably" in the hospital. I don't agree with Rush on much, but does who truly care about the man need to get on him about taking better care of himself.

Dick Cheney Reprimands Barack Obama

ABCNews.com:
One day after President Obama called the "human and systemic failures" leading to the attempted Christmas Day bombing of Northwest flight 253 "totally unacceptable," former Vice President Dick Cheney is accusing the president of being part of the problem.

"We are at war, and when President Obama pretends we aren't, it makes us less safe," Cheney said in a statement to Politico.

Cheney said Obama's "low key response" to the failed attack, refusal to use the phrase "war on terror" and the pending closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention center all reflect an attitude that terrorism is a law enforcement problem, not a military one.

"Why doesn't he want to admit we're at war? It doesn't fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn't fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency -- social transformation -- the restructuring of American society," Cheney said.

Dick Cheney's words are welcome.

While Tiger Woods Gets Cooked, Charlie Sheen Gets A Free Pass

NYPost.com:

Nothing says "holiday joy" like jail for TV's most famous men.

Late Thanksgiving night, the highest-paid (not to mention the randiest) man in all of sports got into a domestic dispute with his wife, crashed his car, got clubbed by said wife (literally) and ended up snoring on the side of the road before being hauled away, ruining Thanksgiving and the lives of his wife and Tiger cubs, not to mention his career.

On Christmas morning, the highest-paid (even randier) actor on TV wrecked Christmas for his (legally drunk) wife Brooke Mueller and their twins by attacking said wife with a knife and spending Christmas posting bail.

Maybe they should change those lyrics to "God Arrest Ye Merry Gentleman."

But, unlike Tiger Woods, Charlie Sheen's latest vicious behavior has not ruined his career. Sheen's only gotten richer and more popular every year for behavior so menacing he should be classified as a career criminal.

His rise up the Hollywood ladder -- and corresponding crime wave -- began in 1990 when he shot his fiancée Kelly Preston "by mistake." In 1991, he was rewarded with a starring role in "Rookies."

In 1995, he was outed as one of Hollywood Madam Heidi Fleiss's deepest-pocketed clients ($110,000!). He cooperated with the police and testified against her at the trial.

That same year he sailed through the assault of a UCLA student who refused to have sex with him by settling out of court. In 1996, he was "punished" with a big gig on "Spin City."

Enter 1997 and he knocked his then-girlfriend Brittany Ashland to the floor and split her lip. He got a year's suspended sentence, two years probation, a $2,800 fine and a gig narrating "Discovery Mars," a TV special. Not bad for a high school dropout.

The following year, after smoking crack and injecting coke, his father Martin Sheen reported him for violating parole and forced him into rehab. He starred in four movies that year.

In 2005, the "Two and a Half Men" star's pregnant wife Denise Richards divorced him for catting around with hookers, gambling, drug and alcohol abuse. He was nominated for a Golden Globe and launched a kids' clothing line shortly thereafter.

Levi Johnston Gets Public Release Of Child Custody Case

FOXNews.com:
Sarah Palin's oldest daughter appears to have lost her bid to keep a bitter legal dispute with her 1-year-old son's father confidential.

An Alaska judge last week denied Bristol Palin's request to keep the legal proceedings of her custody dispute with Levi Johnston closed.

Palin, 18, filed a petition in early November seeking sole custody of her son, Tripp, and child support payments. She had argued that the scrutiny the case could attract would turn it into a "media circus" that potentially could cause her son embarrassment as he grows older.

"In this day and age of the internet, media stories remain available for years, even decades, after they are first published, and anything printed in the media [whether it is true or not] will be available to Tripp when he is old enough to read," she said in an affidavit.

Levi Johnston, who is seeking joint custody, has pushed for open court proceedings, saying he "just wants a simple case on the merits."

"I do not feel protected against Sarah Palin in a closed proceeding," Johnston said in an affidavit. "I hope that if it is open she will stay out of it. Bristol's attorney is her attorney."

Bristol Palin said that her mother, who resigned as Alaska governor in July, would not be involved in the case other than as "grandmother."

Palin's petition also seeks a visitation schedule for Johnston, who she says has exercised "sporadic visitation rights."

This case should've been kept private. Levi Johnston, whose already proven how much he loves the public spotlight, has no proof of Sarah Palin's involvement here. And if Bristol's mother is supporting her daughter here, well, that's what most moms would do. This is about nothing but Levi Johnston continued contempt for Sarah Palin, so much so that he would even put his personal hate for her ahead of the best interests of his son. He's a sad and pathetic young man who clearly needs lots of help. One can only hope that the Alaskan court doesn't allow personal feelings about Sarah Plain to affect their final judgment in deciding this custody case.

Democrat Senator Max Baucus Denies He Was Drunk On Senate Floor

BillingsGazette.com:
Sen. Max Baucus' office Monday denounced a widely viewed Internet video that suggested Baucus was drunk on the Senate floor last week, calling it an "untrue, personal smear" designed to attack Democrats’ health-care reform legislation.

"This is beyond the pale, and this type of gutter politics has no place in the public sphere," said Baucus spokesman Ty Matsdorf.

The video, posted over the weekend on the popular Internet video Web site YouTube, is a five-minute clip of Baucus speaking last Tuesday during floor debate on the health-reform bill that passed the Senate on Christmas Eve.

Baucus, a key figure in Democrats’ crafting of the health-reform bill, is angrily answering Republican criticism that Democrats fashioned a partisan bill and locked Republicans out of any meaningful talks on the bill.

The video on YouTube is headlined "Senator Max Baucus drunk/intoxicated on Senate floor — shouts down Wicker," and was the top item Monday on the Drudge Report, a prominent right-leaning news Web site.

The video speaks for itself. Max Baucus was either drunk or is dealing with some type of medical condition. No attempt to "smear" here.

Janet Napolitano Recants "System Worked" Statement

American security suffers then they elect liberal Democrats to the highest offices in the land. This was proven under the Carter and Clinton administration and it's being proven again now. If Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab wasn't such an inept wannabee terrorist, over 200-plus people on that Detroit-bound plane would've been dead now. The next time we might not be so "lucky".

Conservative Democrats Tell Obama's Leftist Minions To Drop Cap-And-Trade

Politico.com:

Bruised by the health care debate and worried about what 2010 will bring, moderate Senate Democrats are urging the White House to give up now on any effort to pass a cap-and-trade bill next year.

“I am communicating that in every way I know how,” says Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), one of at least half a dozen Democrats who've told the White House or their own leaders that it's time to jettison the centerpiece of their party's plan to curb global warming.

The creation of an economy-wide market for greenhouse gas emissions is as the heart of the climate bill that cleared the House earlier this year. But with the health care fight still raging and the economy still hurting, moderate Democrats have little appetite for another sweeping initiative — especially another one likely to pass with little or no Republican support.

“We need to deal with the phenomena of global warming, but I think it’s very difficult in the kind of economic circumstances we have right now,” said Indiana Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh, who called passage of any economy-wide cap and trade “unlikely.”

At a meeting about health care last month, moderates pushed to table climate legislation in favor of a jobs bill that would be an easier sell during the 2010 elections, according to Senate Democratic aides.

“I’d just as soon see that set aside until we work through the economy,” said Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.). ?“What we don’t want to do is have anything get in the way of working to resolve the problems with the economy.”

Good news for common sense as well as the often underestimated power of conservative Democrats. Bad news for Al Gore and the rest of 'climate change' hoaxers on the Left.

Alaina Reed Hall R.I.P.

LATimes.com:
Alaina Reed Hall, a singer and actress who played Olivia Robinson on "Sesame Street" for a dozen years beginning in the mid-1970s and later played Rose Holloway on the situation comedy "227," has died. She was 63.

Reed Hall, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, died Thursday at Saint John's Health Center in Santa Monica, said her husband, Tamim Amini.

One of the original cast members of the 1974 off-Broadway production of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on the Road," Reed Hall joined "Sesame Street" in 1976 and played Olivia -- a professional photographer and sister to the character Gordon -- until 1988.

In a 2004 interview with the Springfield (Ohio) News-Sun, Reed Hall described "Sesame Street" as "the best job I ever had."

When she heard fans calling out to her as she rode in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, she said, "It dawned on me. I have a big responsibility. I was in their house every day."
If you were a member of my generation then you damn well that "Sesame Street" was the joint back in the day. I'm sorry to hear that Alaina Reed Hall passed away, to her fans she'll always be a legend.

Jasper Schuringa: Flight 253 Hero Speaks

CBSNews.com:
Jasper Schuringa, a director from Amsterdam, has been identified as the passenger who helped subdue an alleged terrorist as he tried to detonate explosives on board Northwest Airlines flight 253.

A high-ranking law enforcement official told CBS News that the suspect, identified by multiple sources as 23-year-old Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab apparently used a syringe to inject a chemical into powder located near his groin, a technique not seen in previous attempted attacks.

Schuringa told CNN he heard a sound similar to a firecracker as the Detroit-bound flight was preparing to land. After seeing smoke, he noticed a burning object between Abdulmutallab's legs.

"I pulled the object from him and tried to extinguish the fire with my hands and threw it away," Schuringa told CNN.
