The Obligatory Amanda Knox Post

ABCNews.com:
Amanda Knox is sitting in jail "extremely disappointed [and] upset" after being convicted of murdering her British roomate, Meredith Kercher, Knox's mother said after her family's jailhouse visit today.

Meanwhile, the day after the court conviction, Kercher's family told an assembled press throng they are relieved and satisfied by the guilty verdicts, but not exultant.

"We're pleased that we got decision but it's not a time for celebration," said Lyle Kercher, Meredith Kercher's brother. "[It is] not a moment of triumph."

"At the end of the day, we're gathered here because our sister was brutally murdered and taken away from us," he continued. "Of course, there were two very young people who have been sentenced [Friday] to a very long time behind bars."

A jury found Knox, 22, and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, 25, guilty in the killing of Kercher on Nov. 1, 2007. It sentenced Knox to 26 years in prison and Sollecito to 25.

Honestly, I never cared about whether Amanda Knox was found guilty or innocent. Don't mean to be rude or anything and of course, I respect the family's loss and comfort in knowing that Knox will be locked up for a very long time. But the media's obsession with this case has been annoying for quite awhile now and I can't help but think it's been for the same shallow reasons we're used to seeing from the liberal press: Amanda Knox happens to be a young, pretty, white female. And no matter if its Taylor Hicks or Paris Hilton or Brittany Spears or Natalie Holloway, the mainstream press' obsession with anything YPWF, no matter how minute, will never cease to end.

Obama Administration, Democrats Cut Medicaid Benefits

WaPo.com:
Senate Republicans lost their first major challenge to a Democratic plan to overhaul the health-care system, as the chamber voted Thursday to reject a GOP proposal to strip the package of nearly $500 billion in Medicare cuts, its most important source of financing.

On a vote of 58 to 42, the Senate defeated an amendment by
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) that would have sent the bill back to committee with orders to remove the spending cuts. The amendment effectively would have forced Democrats back to the drawing board after months of negotiations to craft a measure that would extend coverage to 30 million additional Americans without increasing budget deficits.
Remember, Democrats are the ones who always claim to be the ones looking out for the poor. But then it's not about "reform" as it is about sealing Ted Kennedy's legacy.

Obama Press Secretary Robert Gibbs Disses Black Reporter April Ryan, Compares Her To A Child

Frustrated by April Ryan's continuous questioning concerning White House social secretary Desiree Rogers' role at the recent state dinner that was crashed by two reality-TV stars, Robert Gibbs instructed her to "calm down" and to "take a deep breath," adding "I do this with my son and that's what happens." Woah! Listen too for the collective groan by the press corps upon Gibbs disrespectful remarks.

Need more proof about the Obama administration's contempt for Black people?

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Gets Pwned By Ellen DeGeneres' "Wife"

Another example of why Elisabeth Hasselbeck sucks as the "conservative voice" of "The Voice". Hasselbeck doesn't know how to fight off standard liberal talking points. de Rossi's no great intellect. Her little speech on why gays should be "married" comes straight from the liberal handbook: mention "civil rights", equate yourself with the Blacks (in this case referring to yourself as a "minority"), yada, yada, yada. Hasselbeck could've made any of several points to combat de Rossi's typical, leftist spiel. She could've mentioned that whether you like the end result or not, the passage of Prop 8 spoke for our countries most Democratic process: the electorate voted on it. Hasselbeck could've also mentioned that 31 states have said no to "gay marriage". She could've contradicted de Rossi's asinine comment that it isn't about the word "marriage" (as opposed to "rights") by mentioning how civil unions have given gays the same "rights" as married couples in all states where its been passed. Granted its hard to take anything on "The View" seriously, but when you're the lone "conservative voice" on any popular TV show, it just looks extra bad when you fail to do your homework and look unprepared when taking on liberals. Any wonder Hasselbeck gets so much grief from the Right.

Al Gore Confronted By ClimateGate Protesters

In Lieu Of ClimateGate Shadow, Al Gore Cancels

FOXNews.com:
Climate campaigner Al Gore has canceled a lecture he was supposed to deliver in Copenhagen. The former vice president and Nobel Peace Prize winner had been scheduled to speak to more than 3,000 people at a Dec. 16 event hosted by the Berlingske Tidende newspaper group.

The group says Gore canceled the lecture Thursday, citing unforeseen changes in his schedule.
Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider says the decision was made because of "all the events going on with the summit."

Dec. 16 is a key date for the meeting because that's when the ministerial segment starts.
Chief editor Lisbeth Knudsen says it's a "great disappointment" that Gore canceled and that all tickets will be refunded.
Just a coincidence? Highly doubt it. Word has it Gore was supposed to be pocketing some major change for his latest speech on nonexistent global warming. But with ClimateGate picking up steam (despite the liberal media's sorry attempt to stay quiet about it) even ManBearPig is smart enough to stay out of the spotlight for now.

Mike Huckabee Talks About Maurice Clemmons On "The View"

Huckabee's still catching a lot of flak (and rightfully so) for his part in Maurice Clemmons murders, but he's doing the right thing in confronting the naysayers head on. Then too, Huckabee couldn't have possibly seen what was coming down the road from Maurice Clemmons when he commuted his sentence.

Jon Stewart Skewers Obama For Sounding Just Like Bush

Now that the Afghanistan "surge" is official, Barry's getting hammered for his decision by his usual minions on the Left.

Donald Rumsfeld Says Obama Is Lying About Afghanistan

Newsmax.com:

Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has vehemently denied President Obama’s claim that the Bush administration ignored the military’s repeated requests for more troops in Afghanistan.

“Such a bald misstatement, at least as it pertains to the period I served as secretary of defense, deserves a response,” Rumsfeld said in a statement on Wednesday.

In his speech Tuesday night, Obama asserted that the war in Iraq drew needed resources away from Afghanistan, which allowed the situation there to deteriorate after 2003.

"Throughout this period, our troop levels in Afghanistan remained a fraction of what they were in Iraq," Obama said. "Commanders in Afghanistan repeatedly asked for support to deal with the reemergence of the Taliban, but these reinforcements did not arrive."

Rumsfeld countered: "I am not aware of a single request of that nature between 2001 and 2006. If any such requests occurred, ‘repeated’ or not, the White House should promptly make them public.

“The President's assertion does a disservice to the truth and, in particular, to the thousands of men and women in uniform who have fought, served and sacrificed in Afghanistan.

“In the interest of better understanding the President's announcement last night, I suggest that the Congress review the President’s assertion in the forthcoming debate and determine exactly what requests were made, who made them, and where and why in the chain of command they were denied.”

Good for Rumsfeld. If Barry thinks that the Bush administration really didn't do enough with Afghanistan he should prove it, instead of relying on smears and hearsay from his idiot, liberal base. Then too maybe Barry still hasn't gotten the memo that Americans have long grown tired of him blaming everything on President Bush. Barry wanted the job, nobody forced him to run for President and now almost a year in and he's still looking behind him for excuses. Now how pathetic is that?

Supreme Court Slaps Down ACLU, Refuses To Put Our Troops In Danger

NYTimes.com:
The Supreme Court on Monday vacated a lower court ruling that would have required the government to release photographs showing the abuse of prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The decision was three sentences long and unsigned, and it followed the enactment of a law in October allowing the secretary of defense to block the pictures’ release. The Supreme Court sent the case back to the lower court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, in New York, for further consideration in light of the new law.

The case was brought by the American Civil Liberties Union under the Freedom of Information Act, which makes disclosure of information in the hands of the executive branch mandatory unless an exemption applies. The Second Circuit ordered the photos released last year, and the Justice Department initially recommended against an appeal to the Supreme Court.

But President Obama overruled his lawyers, saying his national security advisers had persuaded him that releasing the photos would inflame anti-American sentiment abroad and endanger American troops. Some of the pictures, according to a government brief, showed “soldiers pointing pistols or rifles at the heads of hooded and handcuffed detainees,” a soldier who appears to be striking a detainee with the butt of a rifle, and a soldier holding a broom “as if sticking its end” into a prisoner’s rectum.

Good. Common sense defeats liberal terrorism. This case was about nothing but the ACLU's attempt to manipulate and inflame imagery that would only serve the benefits of those on the Left who hate America, all at the despicable behest of putting our troops at risk. Robert Gates attested to that danger under a new federal law, and SCOTUS did the right thing in sending the case back to the lower court for disposal. Serves the facists right.

New York State Senate Says A Resounding 'No' To "Gay Marriage"

Can you believe that in talking about why he voted 'yes' to "gay" marriage, one of these liberal ass clowns had the nerve to say that he "leaves his bible at the door"?

NYTimes.com:
The State Senate defeated a bill on Wednesday that would legalize same-sex marriage, after an emotional debate that touched on civil rights, family and history. The vote means that the bill, pushed by Gov. David A. Paterson, is effectively dead for the year and dashes the optimism of gay rights advocates, who have suffered setbacks recently in several key states.

The bill was defeated by a decisive margin of 38 to 24. The Democrats, who have a bare, one-seat majority, did not have enough votes to pass the bill without some Republican support, but not a single Republican senator voted for the measure. Still, several key Democrats who were considered swing votes also opposed the bill.

Mr. Paterson made an unusual trip to the Senate floor minutes after the last vote was cast, saying, “These victories come and so do the losses, but you keep on trying.”

In a debate that in many instances was cast in unusually personal tones, many senators delivered emotional speeches on the floor of the chamber, equating the struggle for gay rights to the civil rights movement or the battle women have waged for equality.

But State Senator Rubén Díaz Sr. of the Bronx made an impassioned argument against same-sex marriage, describing his continued opposition as reflecting the broad consensus that marriage should be limited to a union between a man and woman. “Not only the evangelicals, not only the Jews, not only the Muslims, not only the Catholics, but also the people oppose it,” he said.

Good job by the New York Senate. Good for the state of New York. Good for the sanctity of marriage which is continually attempted to be brought down by the anti-God, morally bankrupt creatures on the Left. An unpopular liberal scum of a governor, David Paterson, tried and tried to force "gay marriage" on the state of New York and he got rejected.....big time (indeed, the vote against forced gay marriage was larger than most people expected). Most Americans clearly believe that marriage should stay defined as a union between a man and a woman. In the 31 states in which voters had a say on whether or not gay marriage was going to be the law of the land, they all rejected it. Yet, liberal politicians across the country continue to ignore the will of the people in order to cater to the evils of self-righteous, special interest groups promoting nothing but moral depravity. Thank goodness we have enough strong-minded pols in our state Senate to stand up to the bully tactics of the Left.

Chris Matthews Calls West Point Cadets 'Enemy Camp'

First of all, Chris Matthews is a disgrace who needs to apologize for making such a disgusting statement. Secondly, our troops are never happy with Democrat presidents due to usual defense budget cuts and dithering when it comes to protecting Americans. But they have to show the utmost respect for Barry because he their boss. I didn't see them show any animosity while Barry spoke, in fact they applauded him twice in the middle of his boring speech and I saw plenty of smiles. If they were bothered at all, it was probably because Barry's speech wasn't motivating. He should have pressed points of victory and strength, instead Barry was busy making excuses and of course found new ways to blame Bush.

Nobel Peace Price Winner Barack Obama To Send 40,000 Troops To Afghanistan

CNN.com:
President Obama has informed several top diplomatic and military officials about his decision regarding new U.S. strategy and troop levels in Afghanistan, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Monday.

Obama called Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Sunday to tell her about his decision, Gibbs said. The president later met in the Oval Office with Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Michael Mullen, top U.S. Middle East military commander Gen. David Petraeus and White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, among others.

Obama also informed his top military commander in Afghanistan -- Gen. Stanley McChrystal -- and Karl Eikenberry, the U.S. ambassador to Kabul.

Obama gave orders to implement the new strategy during the Oval Office meeting, Gibbs said.

On Tuesday, Obama will travel to West Point, New York, to announce his decision on a request by McChrystal for up to 40,000 additional troops.

Obama is expected to send more than 30,000 U.S. troops and seek further troop commitments from NATO allies as part of a counterinsurgency strategy to wipe out al Qaeda elements and stabilize the country while training Afghan forces.

So Mr. Hope and Change We Can Believe In, a man who once promised the world that he'd withdraw most of our troops soon within his presidency, is now increasing the troop count in Afghanistan by almost 50% over the next year and change. Now that sounds like the kind of move a "war President" would make....kind of like Barry's predecessor. Funny how different the game looks when you're the one now in charge of calling the plays.

Dem. Congressman Maurice Hinchey Has Bush Derangement Syndrome

Damn, almost a year out of office and some loons just can't stop blaming Bush for everything wrong with the planet:

Rep. Maurice Hinchey (D-N.Y.) on Monday accused former President George W. Bush of “intentionally” letting Osama bin Laden escape during the American invasion of Afghanistan.

“Look what happened with regard to our invasion into Afghanistan, how we apparently intentionally let bin Laden get away,” Hinchey said during an interview on MSNBC.

“That was done by the previous administration because they knew very well that if they would capture al Qaeda, there would be no justification for an invasion in Iraq,” the Democratic congressman continued. “There’s no question that the leader of the military operations of the U.S. called back our military, called them back from going after the head of al Qaeda.”

When host David Shuster followed up to ask if Hinchey really thought Bush “deliberately let Osama bin Laden get away,” the congressman responded: “Yes, I do.”

Mind you, this idiot has led a crusade to regulate conservative radio with the "Fairness Doctrine" and once accused Karl Rove of planting the CBS Rathergate memos. Of course you'd have to be a liberal/Bush hater to think that catching bin Laden wouldn't have actually helped Bush politically, much less have given more support to head into Iraq. But when you're a liberal still suffering from BDS, common sense just never seems to enter the picture.

Mike Huckabee Speaks On Granting Cop-Killer Clemency

You may not agree with everything Huckabee says here, but I give him credit for facing the music and he does hold himself to be partly responsible.

Will Maurice Clemmons Be Mike Huckabee's Willie Horton?

ABCNews.com:
Any political ambitions of former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee could be hurt by his role in freeing Maurice Clemmons, the gunman suspected in the execution murders of four police officers in Washington State -- especially since Clemmons would not be the first criminal Huckabee helped to free who later committed murder.

Clemmons was serving 95 years when Huckabee, then governor of Arkansas, commuted his sentence in 2000. Clemmons is now being sought in the murders of four Lakewood, Wash. police officers, who were ambushed and shot in a coffee shop Sunday morning.

Four years earlier, Huckabee also pushed for the parole of rapist Wayne Dumond despite chilling testimonies from victims and their relatives that he was a dangerous criminal who would strike again. Ashley Stevens, a 17-year-old cheerleader when Dumond raped her, told ABC News in 2007 that she put her face inches from Huckabee's and said, "This is how close I was to Wayne Dumond, and I will never forget his face, and you will never forget mine. He's the one that raped me."

First of all, who knew Mike Huckabee was Mr. Rogers on crime (well apparently, Malkin did and so did quite a few others)? And this doesn't look like a case of typical Far-Right paranoia, as from all accounts Maurice Clemmons had no business being on the streets. Apparently as governor of Arkansas, Huckabee granted a lot of undeserved pardons as well executive clemency's to felons with long rap sheets, including Clemmons. These acts of freedom caused plenty of controversy during Huckabee's years as Governor. Yet, Huckabee would often point fingers at supposedly inept prosecutors or inject religion into his pardons, all the time having little knowledge of the case, depending on the knowledge of his assistants instead. Maurice Clemmons has a rap sheet littered with crimes ranging from burglary to domestic violence to possibly raping a child. He was granted clemency by then Arkansas Gov. Huckabee, in 2000, after Clemmons stated he had turned his life around in prison upon serving 11 years in an Arkansas prison on various felony counts including severe violence. Huckabee commuted Clemmons sentence and made him immediately eligible for parole.

Witnesses are saying that Clemmons, who had just gotten into a couple of altercations with cops in recent days, was carrying around a grudge against police before he allegedly shot and killed 4 police officers. A massive manhunt for Clemmons is still underway, tho some reports are saying that he may be wounded or dead from a gunshot suffered from the ambush. Meanwhile, Mike Huckabee is on the defense....bigtime, and probably will be for quite awhile as right now he's not looking good at all.

Bill Clinton Tells Canadian Audience: "Global Warming Can Make Some Places Colder"

There, now a former U.S. President inadvertently admits that global warming is nothing but a scam. We had hoped that Slick Willie would cause trouble for Al Gore again some day, but who knew that he'd drop this gem. Good job Bill.
