Obama Jets To New York City For "Date Night" On Taxpayers Dime

Barack Obama didn't feel it was important enough to visit New York City during his first four months as the Teleprompter-in-Chief. But all that changed come "Date Night"--Barry's pledge to his average-looking wife to take her out every week...regardless of the economic crisis going on in the country that Barry hasn't come close to fixing, regardless if it's on the taxpayers dime:
His public schedule listed no official events, so President Obama had plenty of time to devote to being a weekend dad and spouse.

The president and first lady Michelle Obama watched daughter Malia's soccer game for an hour Saturday morning in the Palisades neighborhood, a short drive from the White House.

For the evening, the first couple jetted to New York City for date night. A Broadway show and probably dinner were on tap.

The White House refused to say how much the trip was costing taxpayers.

Even before the Obamas left Washington, the there-and-back trip drew criticism from Republicans. They questioned the president's decision to travel to New York for a night of entertainment during a recession and while automakers struggle to survive.

It was just a few months ago that auto executives were roundly criticized when they traveled to Washington for congressional hearings in pricey private planes.

The Republican National Committee issued a news release that chastised Obama for saying he understands American's troubles, but then hopping up to New York for "a night on the town."

Noting that General Motors is expected to file for Chapter 11 protection on Monday, the news release said: "Putting on a show: Obamas wing into the city for an evening out while another iconic American company prepares for bankruptcy."

In a statement read to the press, Obama said, "I am taking my wife to New York City because I promised her during the campaign that I would take her to a Broadway show after it was all finished."

This from the same guy who recently declared that we're in the worst crisis since the Great Depression. But hey, gotta please the wifey. And Americans are well aware that a Michelle Obama who doesn't get her way isn't a pretty sight.

Democrat Culture of Corruption Watch: Sen. Kevin Parker

Conservatives know
the truth. But since we can't count on the media to give equal coverage on corrupt politicians:

Short-fused state Sen. Kevin Parker was indicted Friday on assault charges related to an attack on a news photographer outside his Brooklyn home, prosecutors said.

The Brooklyn Democrat was charged with with second- and third-degree assault, third- and fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison.

Parker, 42, allegedly roughed up a New York Post photographer earlier this month and smashed his camera in front of Parker's home at Avenue H and 37th St. in Flatbush, police said.

Days after the incident, Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith axed Parker as majority whip and yanked him as Energy Committee chairman, a job that carried a $22,000 stipend.

George W. Bush Quote of the Day!

"Anything I say is not to be critical of my successor. I didn't like it when my predecessors criticized me. He [President Clinton] never did, by the way. He was respectful. Can't say that for every one of them. And I didn't appreciate it, and I'm not going to do the same thing to [President Obama]. There's plenty of critics in American society. I think you heard a few. I know I did."

Sergio Garcia: Fairfax High School's 2009 Prom "Queen"

It's no secret that public schools around America are being faced with an epidemic of liberal indoctrination, by so-called "educators" who want nothing better than to inject our youth their morally bankrupt propaganda. So in this case, who cares about all the young women having to compete with a boy for the title of "Prom Queen"? It's the "rights" of Sergio Garcia that matter more here--and if he feels like he's a "girl," so be it. Look for Sergio Garcia in a stall inside a women's bathroom soon--so what if he chooses to piss standing up.

Message To White Conservatives: Dump The "Racist" Talk On Sonia Sotomayor

CNN.com:
The White House says Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor acknowledges she made a poor word choice in a 2001 speech in which she said that a Latina judge would often reach a better conclusion than a white male judge who hasn't lived the same life.

That's according to presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs. He says he has not talked directly to Sotomayor about it but has spoken to people who have.

Critics have singled out the 2001 comment by Sotomayor for criticism. She was describing how personal experiences can affect judging. She said a "wise Latina woman" with her experiences would more often than not reach a "better conclusion" than a white male.

Fine. Sotomayor's admitted that she made a mistake with the 'Latina judge' vs. 'White Male Judge' spiel 8 years ago. It was a dumb comment, but was it racist? Far from it. Funny too that white conservatives going after Sotomayor for supposedly being racist (like both Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich did recently) fail to mention the case of Giuliani vs. Pappas, in which Sotomayor dissented from a majoring opinion and spoke up on the side of a white cop who was fired by the NYPD for distributing racist/anti-Semitic literature in his off hours. Sotomayor said the white cop’s first amendment rights should not be taken away simply because his speech may be distasteful to the majority--yeah, that sounds like a "racist" to me.

And listen, I understand that it was Barry who first played up the race card when he introduced Sotomayor as his SCOTUS nominee. And the liberal media has surely done their part to highlight Sotomayor's Latina roots and the fact that she overcame a poor environment growing up (the same yahoos that ignored Clarance Thomas' "great story" when he was nominated for SCOTUS, btw). But race and upbring shouldn't have anything to do with whether Sotomayor can aptly serve on the highest court in the land.

Yet, whether it's a dumb comment by a sitting minority judge, fireman exams that seem to favor blacks or the use of quotas in the workplace, these days white people have gotten real comfortable using the "R" word when they feel that they're victims of racism. But what some in the white world don't get is that a few wrongs will never overcome 400 years of physical, mental, economic and social oppression. Never. I'm not saying that white people should be quiet when they feel wronged due to their race, just be extra careful how you use the R-word. Sonia Sotomayor may be a lot of things conservatives don't like, but there's nothing in her file that indicates that she's racist. And Limbaugh and Gingrich look extra stupid now for going there.

Michael Bloomberg Is A Jerk And A Bully

Yesterday, a reporter had the audacity to ask Michael Bloomberg a tough question about his plan to run for a third term as mayor of NYC. Earlier this year Bloomberg changed his mind and bypassed election laws so he could run again this coming November. The power grab has not only offended many New Yorkers, but clearly it has Bloomberg on the defensive as he's gotten plenty of criticism about the matter, now even going after reporters when they ask tough questions. Too bad, Billionaire Mike just has too much in his war chest for anyone to have a chance at unseating him. What a jerk.

Sonia Sotomayor: Government Can Be Pro-Life

Hmmm....maybe she's
not as liberal as some would like to think:

Judge Sonia Sotomayor is sparking fears among pro-abortion advocates on the left who fear that she may be a closeted pro-life advocate, according to The Los Angeles Times.

They have seen no evidence that she supports upholding Roe Vs. Wade, and Sotomayor has never ruled on abortion or taken a public position in favor of pro-abortion rights.

In her only abortion-related decision, according to the Times, she did not come down the way abortion-rights groups would have liked. In 2002, Sotomayor, raised a Catholic, rejected a challenge to President Bush's "Mexico City policy," which required foreign groups receiving U.S. funds to pledge that they did not support or promote abortion. Republican presidents have adopted the policy in executive orders, while Democrats, including President Obama, have repealed it.

Sotomayor spoke for a three-judge panel that upheld the policy as constitutional. The government "is free to favor the antiabortion position over the pro-choice position and can do so with public funds," she said.

"I simply don't know Judge Sotomayor's view on Roe vs. Wade. I will be very concerned if the question is not asked and answered during the Senate hearings," Nancy Northup, president of the Center for Reproductive Rights, told the Times.

Despite efforts to get clarification, Northup said, "So far, no one has been able to give us an assurance of her views."

Meanwhile, the White House is stressing that Obama doesn’t have a litmus test on abortion despite frequent campaign promises by the president to uphold abortion rights.

Of course, with a small paper trail on abortion--not to mention her being raised a Catholic, liberals are already demanding that Sotomayor be asked about Roe vs. Wade during the upcoming conformation hearings. But issues, or a litmus test shouldn't come into play here, Sotomayor's experience, competency and qualifications is what matters most. Then too maybe it ends up that Sotomayor's relatively slim record on abortion played a huge part in her getting picked for SCOTUS--in other words Barry's way of saying that in this case, he won't be bullied by the fearmongers in the angry Left.

"The Goode Family" Makes Fun Of Al Gore, Liberals

Finally, a reason to start watching local TV (unless it's sports, I rarely watch anything non-cable) again:

Gerald and Helen Goode live by a simple motto: WWAGD.

Translation: What Would Al Gore Do?

The politically correct couple lead a carbon-footprint-free family in the new animated comedy "The Goode Family," premiering Wednesday night on ABC, which pokes fun at all things holier-than-thou.

Produced by the extremely un-PC "Beavis and Buthead" creator Mike Judge, and his "King of the Hill" partners John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, "The Goode Family" could succeed as an antidote to the raft of PC-leaning network comedies, says one media expert.

“It is good counter-programming. TV networks are understandably under enormous pressure to create buzz and bring back a young audience,” Michael Levine, Director of Levine Communications, told Foxnews.com. “It is always hard to know which match will start a fire, but the idea of creating controversy is a good strategy.”

The show's first episode could generate some heat. In it, mom Helen is unhappy when their daughter, Bliss joins an abstinence group to get her mom to stop talking to her "girlfriend-to-girlfriend" about sex, then asks her horrified hippie-dippy father to accompany her to the group's purity ball.

But that's not all. Their dog, Che, has been raised a vegan, so he now craves meat to such an extent, he is eating every squirrel, bird, and pet cat that dares stray into the Goodes' yard.

And in a swipe at politically correct overseas adoption, the family's 16-year-old son, Ubuntu, whom they adopted from Africa as a baby, is in fact white. It turns out he was from South Africa, and they forgot to check the right box!

But can a show that so aggressively tweaks the values and heroes of liberal Hollwyood establishment ever get the guest stars that stop by Tinseltown-friendly animated shows like "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy"?

“If the show is successful than most stars would actually find it beneficial to their careers," Levine says. "It creates controversy and is of the moment.”

"The Goode Family " premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.

I was never much of a "Beavis and Buthead" guy, but "King of the Hill" always ranked up there on hilarity scale, so I'm going to try and check for this show when I get a chance.

Chuck Schumer Warns GOP: Oppose Sotomayor At Your Own Peril

Liberals and their selective memory are just funny like that sometimes. The same loons who bounced the qualified Robert Bork with zealous tales drenched in rank partisanship, literally tried to incriminate Clarence Thomas during Senate confirmation hearings and even gave the experienced John Roberts a hard time, are now out and about threatening anyone who dares tries to block Sonia Sotomayor's appointment to SCOTUS:
New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) says if Republicans oppose Sonia Sotomayor, they'll do so at their "own peril."

"I think the confirmation process will be more of a test of the Republican Party than it is of Judge

Sotomayor," Schumer told reporters Tuesday. "It's a test for the Republican Party because she is a mainstream justice. ... Why would they oppose her? There's no really good reason."

Conservatives groups will argue — and indeed already are arguing — that Sotomayor is an activist judge who can be blinded by her own liberal politics.

Although Republicans say the Senate should take its time in considering Sotomayor's confirmation, Schumer said the timetable is up to Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.).

"I think people will look at the yes or no vote on the whole record, not on the question of procedures on the Judiciary Committee," he said.

Democrat Politicians 3 Times More Corrupt Than Republicans

Not that you'd know about
any of this if you just stuck with what you read in the mainstream press, yunno, MSNBC, ABC, NYTimes, WaPo, CNN, CBS, et al:

Funny thing. We’re not hearing the Democrats bang that culture of corruption drum much these days. Maybe it’s because they cleaned up all the corruption.

Just kidding.

It’s actually because the overwhelming number of politicians under investigation in Washington, DC these days are - drum roll, please - Democrats.

Fact is, there are now 12 active investigations looking into Democrats and only 4 looking into Republicans.

Democratic members of Congress under investigation: Sanford Bishop of Georgia, Jesse Jackson of Illinois, Allan Mollohan of West Virginia, John Murtha of Pennsylvania, Charlie Rangel of New York, Linda Sanchez of California, Loretta Sanchez of California, Pete Visclosky of Indiana.

Democratic Senators under investigation: Roland Burris of Illinois, Kent Conrad of North Dakota, Bob Menendez of New Jersey.

Republican members of Congress under investigation: Jerry Lewis of California, Garry Miller of California, Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania, Don Young of Alaska.

Republican Senators under investigation: None.

Sad to say, we don’t attribute this to any great sense of honesty on the part of the Republicans. It’s more likely that they’re just so weak and ineffectual that they’re not worth trying to corrupt them anymore.

Predictable Obama Picks Sonia Sotomayor For SCOTUS

FOXNews.com:

President Obama nominated federal Appeals Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court Tuesday, citing her "inspiring life story" and "distinguished career" in his decision.

Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic on the high court if confirmed. She would succeed Justice David Souter, who is retiring.

The president, in his announcement, said he was looking for a justice with a "common touch and a sense of compassion" as well as experience and depth of knowledge. He said Sotomayor, who grew up in a Bronx housing project and has an extensive judicial background, would come to the Supreme Court bench with more varied experience than anyone currently on the court when they were appointed.

Sotomayor, who said she was "deeply moved" by the president's decision, called herself an "ordinary person who has been blessed with extraordinary opportunities and experiences."

Obama called Sotomayor an "inspiring woman who I believe will be a great justice."

Yawn. Should anyone be surprised that Barry used his first opportunity and picked a female for SCOTUS? Not really, when you consider that Barry has a white, liberal base that would've been up in arms had dared to select a man. Hell, no matter how much Barry's minions in the press try to deny it, the fact that all of the finalists to replace David Souter were woman, shows you what Barry was going to pick the best FEMALE (instead of the best person) for the job from the get-go.

Anyway, Sotomayor certainly has the experience for the job and liberals will love using the fact that former President George H.W. Bush first picked Sotomayor to be a U.S. District Court judge--clever way to ward off conservatives seeking to ambush Sotomayor come the Senate Conformation hearings. And despite her liberal leanings as well as having made some controversial statements in the past, the feeling here is that with a Democrat majority in Congress (plus, strategically speaking this wouldn't be a good time for the GOP to risk pissing off the Hispanic populace), Sotomayor will easily be confirmed to SCOTUS.

Yes!!! California Supreme Court Upholds Same-Sex Marriage Ban!

Finally, after so many recent setbacks, a victory for traditional marriage:
The California Supreme Court upheld a voter-approved ban on same-sex marriage Tuesday, but it also decided that the estimated 18,000 gay couples who tied the knot before the law took effect will stay wed.

The 6-1 decision written by Chief Justice Ron George rejected an argument by gay rights activists that the ban revised the California constitution's equal protection clause to such a dramatic degree that it first needed the Legislature's approval.

The court said the people have a right, through the ballot box, to change their constitution.

"In a sense, petitioners' and the attorney general's complaint is that it is just too easy to amend the California constitution through the initiative process. But it is not a proper function of this court to curtail that process; we are constitutionally bound to uphold it," the ruling said.

The announcement of the decision set off an outcry among a sea of demonstrators who had gathered in front of the San Francisco courthouse awaiting the ruling. Holding signs and many waving rainbow flags, they chanted "shame on you." Many people also held hands in a chain around an intersection in an act of protest.

Gay rights activists immediately promised to resume their fight, saying they would go back to voters as early as next year in a bid to repeal Proposition 8.

I predicted that the California Supreme Court would seek a "compromise" by upholding Prop 8, while allowing those gays who were already "married" to stay "wedded". Predictably, the immoral Left is seething over this decision, so one can soon expect a host of demonstrations, riots, conservative smearing and bully tactics against Prop 8 supporters until the next time Prop 8 comes up for a vote--that's just their way. In the meantime, conservatives in Iowa, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire should use this case as motivation to turn over the decisions of activist judges in their states that recently forced "gay marriage" on their populace. Either way, I still have the feeling that like it or not, eventually SCOTUS will have to get in on this matter and settle it once and for all.

Anderson Cooper: Now A Ratings FAIL

Surely, conservatives recall when the condescending prick that is Anderson
Cooper mocked the anti-tax tea bagging protests with his "It's hard to talk when you're teabagging" line on air last month. Well, it's good to know that Cooper has now officially joined the long list of biased, anti-conservative nutjobs pretending to be objective journalists that no one wants to watch:

SINCE President Obama took office in January, CNN has seen its ratings drop. And one reason has to do with Campbell Brown. The host of "No Bias, No Bull" has been on maternity leave for the past month, and in her absence, the show with substitute host Roland Martin has nose-dived. Sources say he has complained the network doesn't promote him enough or book him high-profile guests.

But the biggest disappointment has been the cable channel's big, silver-haired hope, Anderson Cooper.

The former host of "Celebrity Mole" should be happy he signed a multimillion-dollar, multiyear contract with CNN last year during the presidential race, when ratings were at an all-time high. If his contract were up now, Cooper would probably have to settle for far less.

The ratings have plunged for his show, "Anderson Cooper 360," since Obama's inauguration, and the drop in May has been steeper, especially in the coveted 25-54 demographic, where he's down nearly 30 percent from the previous month, averaging less than 250,000 demo viewers.

Tuesday night, Cooper raked in only 615,000 viewers overall. But it wasn't his slowest night ever -- that was May 8, when he clocked in a lousy 499,000 viewers.

Andy Rooney Slams Memorial Day

Obama Honors Confederacy, Sells Out The Black People

CNN.com:

Barack Obama marked his first Memorial Day as president on Monday, calling on Americans to remember U.S. troops who died in the service of their country and navigating a Civil War memorial controversy.

The president participated at the 141st annual Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknowns.

The men and women buried at Arlington "waged war so that we may know peace," Obama said.

"They were willing to give up everything for the defense of our freedom [and] were willing to sacrifice all for their country. ... They are the best of America."

Also Monday, Obama decided to continue a controversial presidential tradition of honoring Southern Civil War soldiers by sending a wreath to Arlington's Confederate Memorial, according to the White House.

But the president decided to start what may become a new tradition by sending a wreath to the African-American Civil War Memorial at Vermont Avenue and U Street Northwest in Washington.
Some are saying that the laying of a wreath honoring Black veterans was a "compromise," but screw that, Barry should've taken a stand here. The Confederate Memorial honors soldiers who took part in a war to preserve rights that included slavery. When Presidents take part in this tradition, they legitimize the Confederacy. 95% of Blacks voted for Obama in this past election, yet even after being elected Barry refuses to take on race matters in this country, while at the same time going out if his way to please his white, liberal base (overturning stem-cell research statutes, promising to close Guantanamo Bay, etc.) at seemingly every turn. By continuing to turn his back on his Black supporters, the first Black President comes off as nothing but a coward.

On Memorial Day We Remember......

The
real history of Memorial Day....
The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form or ceremony is prescribed, but Posts and comrades will, in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.
Do something today to remember those who have bravely served our country. In New York, the governor asked that we observe the National Moment of Remembrance. One of my best friends from high school is in the Army stationed overseas in Germany and I often think of him. So many people have chosen to sacrifice their lives for our country (including, as seen above, the Tuskeegee Airmen). Today is their day.
