Obama Says He'll Ignore Liberal Pressure To Pick Female Judge For SCOTUS

Hey, I can give props to Barry when he deserves it, rare as that may be:

President Barack Obama wants intellectual firepower and a common touch in the next Supreme Court justice, and doesn't "feel weighed down by having to choose ... based on demographics."

With a nomination potentially just days away, Obama was asked in a C-SPAN interview what he would tell his wife, Michelle Obama, his daughters and his mother-in-law if he didn't choose a woman.

"Actually I can't tell you the number of women, including Michelle, who say, 'Choose the person you think is going to be best,'" Obama responded.

He said, "I think in any given pick, my job is to just find somebody who I think is going to make a difference on the courts and look after the interest of the American people. And so, I don't feel weighed down by having to choose a Supreme Court justice based on demographics. I certainly think that ultimately we want a Supreme Court that is reflective of the incredible variety of the American people."

Obama said he thought it was "safe to say" the announcement about the Supreme Court justice, who will replace retiring Justice David Souter, would come soon, although he offered no specific date.
If Barry picks the best person for the job than good for him. Liberals are pressuring Barry left and right to pick a female judge who meets their basic litmus test: yunno, supports Roe vs. Wade, will legislate from the bench and promises to oppose Justice Scalia at every turn. However, the priority should be making sure we have a confirmation process with as little controversy as possible--that can happen if Barry sticks to his word and picks a person whose resume suits both sides of the ideological spectrum.

Obama's Credit Card Reform Bill Is A Scam

Sounds good from afar, but then you read the fine print:
President Barack Obama warned overeager shoppers and greedy credit card companies alike on Friday to act responsibly as he signed into law a bill designed to protect debt-ridden consumers from surprise charges.

The White House staged a signing ceremony in the Rose Garden, an indication of the legislation's importance to Obama. Though opposed by many financial companies, the bill cleared Congress with broad support.

Obama made clear that he didn't champion the changes with the intention of helping those who buy more than they can afford through "reckless spending or wishful thinking."

"Some get in over their heads by not using their heads," the president said. "I want to be clear: We do not excuse or condone folks who've acted irresponsibly."

And yet, he said, for many of the millions of Americans who use credit cards and carry a balance, trying to get out of debt has been made difficult and bewildering by their credit card companies.

Obama said many "got trapped" because of the downturn in the economy that has turned family budgets on their heads. But, he said, "part of it is the practices of the credit card companies.

Too bad this so-called "reform" doesn't benefit credit-card users already behind in payments (like there aren't hundreds of thousands of those around the country) and takes away perks from better customers by tacking on additional charges. Sure, there's much needed changes to over-the-limit fees, but there's still no limit on how high companies can go on interest rates. And just like your typical liberal, by placing all the blame on the credit card companies, Barry failed to address the responsibility of credit card users themselves who run up bills knowing full well that they can't pay them. So overall, no matter how pretty Barry tries to package it, what you're left with is nothing but a scam.

Liz Cheney: "Obama Has A Sept. 10th Mentality"

Former President Bush Receives Standing Ovations From High School Students

Imagine that. High school students in this country giving standing ovations to that ogre of the Left, former President George W. Bush.

Of course, the loons at MSNBC and the rest of the Bush-haters in the press will have little to say, if anything, about this little event, but hey it's good to know that some of the young folk in our country can think on their own:
It was a humbling moment for the former commander in chief: President George W. Bush was walking former first dog Barney in his new Dallas neighborhood when it stopped in a neighbor's yard for relief.

"And there I was, former president of the United States of America, with a plastic bag on my hand," he told a group of graduating high school students in New Mexico on Thursday. "Life is returning back to normal."

Bush, in one of his few public appearances since leaving office in January, told the students that leaving office lifted a heavy burden.

"I no longer feel that great sense of responsibility that I had when I was in the Oval Office. And frankly, it's a liberating feeling," he told seniors from Artesia High School.

He received a warm welcome in the southeastern New Mexico community, the Roswell Daily Record reported. Bush declined interviews and no video cameras were allowed inside.

The crowd gave him multiple standing ovations and after his speech he was presented with a sculpture of an eagle taking flight from a torch. The sculpture will be dedicated at City Hall on Memorial Day in honor of Bush and America's veterans.

Did Christians Help Kris Allen Win "American Idol"?

FOXNews.com:

Kris Allen was indeed the underdog going into the "American Idol" finale on Wednesday evening, and the vibe inside the Nokia Theater was definitely in favor of the more controversial, theatrical and incredibly "out there" California native Adam Lambert.

"Adam has the potential to be a star so overall you could say he deserves to win," Simon Cowell told Tarts on Wednesday afternoon. "But this is 'American Idol,' anything could happen and we could have an upset."

And an upset for Cowell it clearly was -- the outspoken judge was the only one not to give Allen a standing ovation when he was announced the 2009 winner as determined by a record-breaking 100 million votes.

So was it the Christian vote that prevailed in Allen's favor?

The 23-year-old UCA student has been on the worship team at New Life Church for years and helps with their outreach programs, but unlike previous winners such as Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood who made their faith very well known, Allen consciously refrained from making mention of his virtuous values throughout the competition.

"This is a singing competition, not a church thing," Allen told Tarts earlier this week while Lambert added that the "vote is based on talent and performing, not religion."

With Allen having shied away from the sectarian spotlight, his local church made up for it. The New Life Church in Greater Little Rock, Arkansas urged churchgoers to prayer and vote for the 'Idol' finalist, created a Facebook link on the church Web site in support of their hometown hero and his proud Pastor, Rick Bezet, flew to Los Angeles for the momentous finale.

Personally I haven't watched "Idol" in years, but wouldn't it be something if Christians did indeed push Allen over the edge, thus giving him an upset victory? Now if only more Christians would come out in the upcoming 2010 elections, maybe the GOP could get its mojo back. Let's just hope that Allen isn't another con artist pulling a Clay Aiken.

Bush Derangement Syndrome Alert: Rod Driver

Newsmax.com:

A Rhode Island Democratic lawmaker says he'll donate $100 to charity for every second former President George W. Bush withstands waterboarding.

State Rep. Rod Driver also included former Vice President Dick Cheney and ex-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in his offer. He sent letters to all three.

Bush's administration allowed the interrogation technique, which simulates drowning, to be used on terror suspects. Driver says that, if Bush is so confident it isn't torture, he should try it for himself. His offer was first reported Thursday in The Westerly Sun.

A spokesman for Bush didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

Cheney has defended waterboarding and other harsh interrogation methods, saying they yielded important information.

Like Cheney said earlier today: "“Yet for all these exacting efforts to do a hard and necessary job and to do it right, we hear from some quarters nothing but feigned outrage based on a false narrative. In my long experience in Washington, few matters have inspired so much contrived indignation and phony moralizing as the interrogation methods applied to a few captured terrorists.”

"Phony moralizing" is right. The same liberals who mock abstinence education at every turn, push for "rights" so same-sex couples can get "married" and cater to an abortion industry that makes billions off the backs of poor, young, teenage girls are suddenly "alarmed" by enhanced interrogation methods on wannabee terrorists? Puh-leeze.

Rush Limbaugh Challenges MSNBC Not To Talk About Him For 30 Days, But They Can't

"The biggest whale in the ocean..." Wow, that Chrissy is so clever....coming up with another lame joke on Limbaugh's weight.

And Ed Schultz, another failed former Air America host, challenges Limbaugh to not talk about the Teleprompter-In-Chief for 30 days. How stupid. Limbaugh directly takes on a failing, liberal network and said network turns it around to President Obama. Apparently, the lamebrains at MSNBC just can't understand the difference between an elected official and a radio talk-show host, much less the difference between constructive criticism and juvenile name-calling. No wonder nobody watches them.

Dick Cheney Rips Obama A New One

CNN.com:
Former Vice President Dick Cheney defended the Bush administration's national security record Thursday, and argued that President Barack Obama is responsible for weakening the country's ability to combat al Qaeda and other extremists.

Cheney argued that the Bush administration "didn't invent" the authority exercised in the war against al Qaeda and others. He said it was clearly granted by the Constitution and legislation passed by Congress after the September 11 attacks.

He also said the use of controversial "enhanced interrogation techniques" was a success that saved thousands of lives.

At the same time, Cheney argued that Obama's decision to release Bush-era interrogation memos was a reckless and unfair distraction in the fight against extremists.

Hypocritical Black Liberals Upset With Comedian Jay Mohr For Michelle Obama Joke

TheFrisky.com:

Is it unofficially “Hate On Michelle Obama” week? Supermodel Iman started it by telling Parade that Mrs. O is ”no great beauty.” Now, comic Jay Mohr is adding his two cents. During a call-in on “The Jim Rome Show” on ESPN, he went off on a mean-spirited monologue about the First Lady.

Some of the low-light’s included:

“Michelle Obama—that is a big dude. When Barack plays pick up games at the White House, you know he picks Michelle as his forward, maybe his (center) depending on who’s in Congress that day.”

“That has to be like being married to Elton Brand. She is a big dude.”

“I like when she put her arm around the Queen of England and she put her in a headlock and said, ‘I’ve been waiting 200 years to put my arms around you lady.’”

We know Jay considers himself a comic, but these comments are not funny at all. They are hugely disrespectful and totally cross the line, especially considering the First Lady is not an elected official. Listen to the call—he starts in on Michelle at about 1:54 minutes—and let us know your thoughts. Ha-ha or hell no?

"Hate on Michelle Obama Week"?!? Oh please, after all the fawning the media's done with Michelle O these past few months, it's about time the non-Kool-Aid drinkers get some shine. Iman was simply being honest the other day when she stated that Michelle O. is no "great beauty"--a viewpoint that needed be heard, especially after Michelle somehow made Maxim magazine's recent "Hot 100" list. And considering that Iman is a legendary model, i'd consider her to be an expert on the subject of beauty.

As for Mohr comments, some black websites are already tripping and maybe dissing Michelle was a desperate bid for attention by a D-list comedian, but again what's the big deal? For years comedians (including black ones) around the globe went after former First Lady Barbara Bush with denigrating jokes about her "manliness" and I don't recall anyone, especially on the Left, blinking an eye.

Bottom line, Michelle Obama IS average-looking, tall, gangly, has a big ass and can be quite intimidating with that notorious temper of hers--plenty of fodder for the public and comedians alike to go after if they weren't afraid of the PC police on the Left, much less the reaction from the usual crowd of Black Obama stans. But hey, just like Laura Bush, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan and the host of First Ladies before her, Michelle O. is fair game for criticism, jokes, et al and it's about time people quit being afraid to do so. Jay Mohr and Iman shouldn't be knocked for refusing to fall in line with the Obamaholics.

Obama Admits Closing Gitmo Was A "Hasty Decision"

Yeah, in other words, now that Barry's getting to see the world from the same view former President Bush saw it, he can no longer cave to the wishes of his idiot loon base. When it comes to sheer stupidity, common sense will always win--unless, of course, you're Jimmy Carter.

Courts Have To Step In And Save Daniel Hauser's Life

CNN.com:
A Minnesota judge issued an arrest warrant Tuesday for the mother of Daniel Hauser, a 13-year-old boy who is refusing treatment for his cancer, after neither she nor the boy showed up for a court appearance.

"It is imperative that Daniel receive the attention of an oncologist as soon as possible," wrote Brown County District Judge John R. Rodenberg in an order to "apprehend and detain."

"His best interests require it," Rodenberg wrote.

The judge had scheduled the hearing to review an X-ray ordered by the court to assess whether Daniel's Hodgkin's lymphoma was worsening.

The boy's father, Anthony Hauser, did appear at Tuesday's hearing, where he testified that he last saw the mother, Colleen Hauser, at the family's farm on Monday night, when she told him she was going to leave "for a time."

He said he did not know where they had gone.

This is a tough one to decipher. I mean, you're talking about parental rights here and I've always been of the belief that 18 is a fair line to draw in the sand of adulthood--till then parents are in charge, unless of course, there are factors of abuse or neglect in the household. Daniel Hauser's parents are expressing that their religious beliefs go against the use chemotherapy, but we've seen recent cases where a kid's life could've been saved if their parents had taken them to a hospital instead of using natural remedies (or worse cases "prayer") on their child. Plus, the founder of the group that the Hausers follow, the Nemenhah Band, once spent 4 months in jail for fraud related to advocating natural remedies. To me, this is a clear case of neglect on the parents part with the courts needing to intervene and do all they can to save young Daniel Hauser's life.

Obama Disses Nevada Republican Governor Gibbons

MercuryNews.com:
Gov. Jim Gibbons said he was notified Monday that President Obama won't meet with him and some key Nevada business leaders, when Obama is in Las Vegas for a fundraiser, to discuss hardships faced by the state's tourism industry.

Obama is scheduled to be in Las Vegas on May 26 for a fundraiser for U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

Gibbons said he was disappointed that Obama isn't making an effort to "repair the damage" done by his comment in February that corporations shouldn't use bailout funds for trips to Las Vegas or the Super Bowl or to get corporate jets.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs has said Obama wasn't discouraging travel to Las Vegas and instead was referring specifically to companies getting public funds. Gibbs' comments were welcomed at the time by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and various tourism boosters.

Gibbons said Obama's remarks caused economic damage in Las Vegas, adding that over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to be held there recently have been canceled.

Um, what happened to all that talk of bipartisanship Barry?

Stephen Colbert Tells Meghan McCain, 'You're More Liberal Than President Obama'

Newsbusters.org:

Meghan McCain was again provided with a national outlet for her "moderate" Republican views with her appearance on "The Colbert Report" on May 18. Host Stephen Colbert said to her, "You're more liberal than President Obama. Is that how you see the future of Republican Party going?"

"I'm liberal on social issues," McCain responded

Later in the interview McCain explained her views: "All I'm trying to say is it can be a party for a 24-year-old pro-sex woman. It can be. I just think that we have people that are in this party that are hijacking it and - trying to make it more extreme."

A self described "pro-sex, pro-life and pro-gay marriage" Republican, McCain would prefer the Republican Party stray away from abstinence only education and drop its support for the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy.

Two Victories For The Bush Administration Against BDS

Four months into a new administration and the Bush Derangement Syndrome sufferers on the Left still can't let go of their hate from the former President (whose respectfully stayed silent on matters concerning the Teleprompter-In-Chief). Yet, vengeance-seeking liberals who've taken to the courts to get back at Bush and Dick Cheney, are finding themselves
having a hard time finding anyone to side with their loonery:
A unit of the White House that was accused of misplacing perhaps millions of office e-mails does not have to make its records public, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.

The decision was a victory for the Bush administration, which sought to shield its internal communications.

The three-judge panel in Washington concluded the Office of Administration is not subject to the Freedom of Information Act over disclosure of its documents because "it performs only operational and administrative tasks in support of the President and his staff and therefore, under our precedent, lacks substantial and independent authority."

The latest opinion stems from a ongoing lawsuit by private groups over allegedly missing electronic messages, and allegations that the White House failed to properly monitor its internal communications among staff.

Then there was this BS concerning a bunch of illegal immigrants who claimed that they were subjected to "harsh" conditions at a holding cell after being arrested in New York post-9/11. So one of the illegals got himself lawyered up and tried to pin his supposed rough treatment on, of all people, then-Attorney General John Ashcroft:
A closely divided Supreme Court on Monday threw out a Pakistani man's civil rights claim against former attorney general John Ashcroft and FBI Director Robert Mueller for abusive treatment he says he received when arrested with other Muslims in New York after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

The court voted 5-4 — with the more conservative justices in the majority — that the man failed to present enough facts early in the case that his treatment in detention arose from policies Ashcroft and Mueller created and directed that discriminated based on race or religion. The more liberal justices dissented, saying the former detainee had made concrete allegations and the majority's standard could make it harder for victims of government wrongdoing to bring claims of constitutional violations.

"Impeach Bush!"

Oh wait, they can't do that anymore.
Bush-haters really need to get a life.

Actress Cynthia Nixon Wants To Marry Red-Haired Man With Breasts And No Penis

NYDailyNews.com:

There are only 18 days remaining in the Senate's legislative session, said Duane, who urged like-minded New Yorkers to speak up and contact lawmakers.

Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith, who did not attend either rally, has said he will not put the bill up for a vote unless it has the 32 votes it needs to pass.

At the latest count, Smith was six votes short.

"It's time already," said "Sex and the City" actress Cynthia Nixon, flashing the diamond engagement ring given to her by fiancée Christine Marinoni.

Michelle Obama: Angry! - Part 2

This past weekend the bitter and angry First Mom went after her local university (and former employer), during of all things, a commencement speech:

First lady Michelle Obama for the second time has talked about how alienated she was from the University of Chicago when she was growing up on the South Side.

Mrs. Obama commented about her relationship with the U. of C. in a commencement address she delivered Saturday at the University of California, Merced -- echoing remarks she made to children in March at a school here.

The context: Many of the UC Merced graduates were the first in their families to earn college degrees, and Mrs. Obama said, "By using what you have learned here, you can shorten the path perhaps for kids who may not see a path at all.

"I was once one of those kids. Most of you were once one of those kids," and then told the students how she grew up just a few miles from the University of Chicago.

"Yet that university never played a meaningful role in my academic development. The institution made no effort to reach out to me -- a bright and promising student in their midst -- and I had no reason to believe there was a place for me there.

"Therefore, when it came time for me to apply to college, I never ... considered the university in my own backyard as a viable option."

She went on to earn degrees from Princeton and Harvard Law.

Oh yeah, poor Michelle had to settle for Princeton and Harvard Law instead of her local school (which she would have no problem working for later on), see if you can grasp why she's so mad.

Joe Biden: Doofus - Part 8

FOXNews.com:

Vice President Joe Biden, well-known for his verbal gaffes, may have finally outdone himself, divulging potentially classified information meant to save the life of a sitting vice president.

According to a report, while recently attending the Gridiron Club dinner in Washington, an annual event where powerful politicians and media elite get a chance to cozy up to one another, Biden told his dinnermates about the existence of a secret bunker under the old U.S. Naval Observatory, which is now the home of the vice president.

The bunker is believed to be the secure, undisclosed location former Vice President Dick Cheney remained under protection in secret after the 9/11 attacks.

Eleanor Clift, Newsweek magazine's Washington contributing editor, said Biden revealed the location while filling in for President Obama at the dinner, who, along with Grover Cleveland, is the only president to skip the gathering.

According to Clift's report on the Newsweek blog, Biden "said a young naval officer giving him a tour of the residence showed him the hideaway, which is behind a massive steel door secured by an elaborate lock with a narrow connecting hallway lined with shelves filled with communications equipment."

Four months into the job and Joe Biden's mouth keeps getting him in trouble, now to the point that it's affecting national security. Biden himself warned Barry that he was not the best choice for the job of VP and apparently the idiot has never heard of the term "No comment." Sure, Biden is a laughingstock, an early candidate of worse VP ever, but if you think our country is bad now with Barry in charge, can you imagine if, God forbid, we had to live in a world with "President Biden"? *shudder*

Maureen Dowd Admits That She Plagiarized Words From Leftwing Blogger

YahooNews.com:
New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd has admitted to using a paragraph virtually word-for-word from a prominent liberal blogger without attribution.

Dowd acknowledged the error in an e-mail to The Huffington Post on Sunday, the Web site reported. The Times corrected her column online to give proper credit for the material to Talking Points Memo editor Josh Marshall.

The newspaper issued a formal correction Monday saying Dowd "failed to attribute a paragraph about the timeline for prisoner abuse" to Marshall's blog.

The error appeared in Dowd's Sunday column, in which she criticized the Bush administration's use of interrogation methods in the run-up to the Iraq war.

In the original column, Dowd wrote: "More and more the timeline is raising the question of why, if the torture was to prevent terrorist attacks, it seemed to happen mainly during the period when the Bush crowd was looking for what was essentially political information to justify the invasion of Iraq."

Marshall last week wrote virtually the same sentence. But where Dowd's column used the phrase "the Bush crowd was," Marshall used "we were."

Dowd, who won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary in 1999, told The Huffington Post that the mistake was unintentional. She claims she never read Marshall's post last week and had heard the line from a friend who did not mention reading it in Marshall's blog.

Dowd's guilty of plagiarism and at the very least should be suspended. Shows you the credibility of the Pulitzer when an award-winning journalist has to lift sentence's line-by-line from a blogger. Shows you the credibility of the NYTimes' editorial staff that this crime got past them, esp. in light of the Jayson Blair scandal several years ago. Shows you the credibility of Dowd, a writer whose made millions over the years with her radical feminist, hate-filled rants towards men and the Right.

A "friend" gave it to her?!? Anyone who'd buy that line is an idiot.

Obama Seeks "Common Ground" On Abortion, But Most Americans Are Pro-Life

CNN.com:
President Obama delved into the abortion debate in a controversial Notre Dame commencement address Sunday, calling for a search for common ground on one of the most divisive issues in American politics.

Addressing a sharply divided audience at the storied Catholic university, Obama conceded that no matter how much Americans "may want to fudge it ... at some level the views of the two camps are irreconcilable."

"Each side will continue to make its case to the public with passion and conviction," he said. "But surely we can do so without reducing those with differing views to caricature."

The commencement ceremony was boycotted by a number of graduates dismayed by the university's decision both to tap Obama as its commencement speaker and to give him an honorary degree. The president is a supporter of abortion rights and federally-funded embryonic stem-cell research -- positions that are anathema to traditional Catholic teachings.

Some graduates attended the ceremony, but expressed their disapproval by donning mortarboards marked with a cross and the outline of an infant's footprints. Others countered by wearing mortarboards adorned with an Obama campaign symbol.

Protests by abortion rights opponents before Obama's speech led to 27 arrests, St. Joseph County sheriff's deputy Rachel Zawistowski told CNN. One of those arrested was Norma McCorvey, the plaintiff identified as "Roe" in the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that struck down state laws banning abortion.
Barry wants "common ground" on abortion, but a recent Gallup poll found that 51% of Americans are now calling themselves "pro-life", while 42% are "pro-choice"--the first time that's happened since Gallup started polling. According to Gallup fewer Americans believe abortion should be legal under any circumstances--that's sure to be a blow to Planned Parenthood;s bottom line for 2009. Barry may want to take all that under heavy consideration, esp. when he picks his first Supreme Court nominee soon.

John Boehner Slams Nancy Pelosi, Defends Dick Cheney

Good to see a prominent Republican like Boehner speak up for Dick Cheney's right to speak freely and criticize the Teleprompter-in-Chief, instead of these wuss "moderates" who bow down to the liberal press, while slamming their own party.

Al Gore Lied About Waiting Two Years To Criticize President Bush

With all the criticism liberals are piling on Dick Cheney for daring to speak out against the Obama administration, former VP Al Gore entered the fray and claimed the other day to have "waited two years" to criticize the Bush administration. Only it's too bad that The Goracle lied:
In fact, In September of 2002 he trashed then President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and the cabinet for their handling of the war against terrorism. "From the outset, the administration has operated in a manner calculated to please the portion of its base that occupies the far right," Mr. Gore said. Gore called the Bush administration's "attack on fundamental constitutional rights" beyond the "pale and un-American."
