Henry Louis Gates Jr. Quote of the Day!

"A fundamental part of Lincoln's moral compass was his opposition to slavery. But it took him a long time to embrace black people. We were raised with a fairy tale representation that because he hated slavery, he loved the slaves. He didn't. He was a recovering racist. He used to use the N word. He told darky jokes. He resisted abolition as long as he could. But in the end, he was on an upward arc, one that was quite noble."

- historian Henry Louis Gates Jr. on Abraham Lincoln's complex feelings toward Black people

Obama's Stimulus Plan To Ban Religious Worship

Amongst of the pork that the Republicans apparently
couldn't get rid of:

President Obama's proposed economic stimulus plan makes a deliberate – and unconstitutional – attempt to censor religious speech and worship on school campuses across the nation, according to a lawyer who argued related cases before the U.S. Supreme Court 20 years ago and won them all.

"This isn't like a convenient oversight. This is intentional. This legislation pokes its finger in the eyes of people who hold religious beliefs," Jay Sekulow, chief of the American Center for Law and Justice, told WND today.

His was the organization that decades ago argued on behalf of speech freedom on school campuses, winning repeatedly at the U.S. Supreme Court. Since then, the 2001 Good News Club v. Milford Central School District decision was added, clarifying that restricting religious speech within the context of public shared-use facilities is unconstitutional.

The problem in the proposed stimulus bill comes from a provision that states: "PROHIBITED USES OF FUNDS. - No funds awarded under this section may be used for - (C) modernization, renovation, or repair of facilities - (i) used for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or (ii) in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission."

The wording that specifically targets religious speech already has been approved by the majority Democrats in the U.S. House – all GOP members opposed it. In the Senate, Jim DeMint, R-S.C., proposed an amendment to eliminate it, but again majority Democrats decided to keep the provision targeting religious instruction and activities.

CNN reports that a $827billion deal has been reached on the stimulus. Of course, anything can happen between now and Tuesday, when it's supposed to be voted on. Republicans remain, for the most part, very opposed to this latest version of the plan, but Harry Reid seems pretty confident (and cocky) that he can get a couple of GOPers to vote for it--needless to say Arlen Specter being one of them. In the meantime, whatever Republicans can do to cut Nancy Pelosi's other liberal pet projects from this plan would be fine by me.

Nadya Suleman Is An Idiot

CNN.com:
The mother of octuplets, whose story has sparked controversy around the world, rejects suggestions that she may not be able to care adequately for all 14 of her children and that her decisions have been selfish.

"I'm providing myself to my children," Nadya Suleman told NBC in her first interview. "I'm loving them unconditionally, accepting them unconditionally, everything I do. I'll stop my life for them and be present with them and hold them and be with them. And how many parents do that? I'm sure there are many that do, but many don't. And that's unfortunate. And that is selfish."

NBC's "Today Show" ran a portion of the interview Friday.

Suleman, a 33-year-old single mother, had the octuplets through fertility treatments, while already having six young children and no clear source of income.

"I know I'll be able to afford them when I'm done with my schooling. If I were just sitting down, watching TV and not being as determined as I am to succeed and provide a better future for my children, I believe that would be considered to a certainly degree selfish," she said.

She said she plans to go back to college to pursue a degree in counseling, NBC reported. She also said all 14 children have the same biological father, a sperm donor whom she described as a friend.
Ann Coulter is right to be out there condemning single motherhood, it really is starting to become the greatest threat to this planet. It's that serious. This chick always "wanted to be a mom". Did she not realize that was ALREADY a mom! 6 TIMES OVER! AND living with her grandmother at that! Why do I have a feeling that some rich, liberal is going to see this story, feel sorry for this idiot and hook her up with a 20-bedroom mansion or something. Better yet, I can see one of those free home reality TV shows coming to Suleman's "aid" really soon, any wonder she's on a press blitz? Ok, maybe she's not that dumb after all.

Massachusetts Lesbian Activists Are Getting A "Divorce"

Amazing:
One of the lesbian couples that sued and won the right to marriage in Massachusetts has filed for divorce.

Julie and Hillary Goodridge were one of seven pairs involved in the lawsuit, and were one of the first to marry when it became legal in 2004. But in 2006 they separated. Divorce papers were filed last week.

Mat Staver of
Liberty Counsel is not surprised. He contends such types of relationships are short-lived. "In fact, even in male-male relationships there is a general philosophy among same-sex relationships that they are open relationships -- which means that even if they live under the same roof, they have affairs frequently and often with many other partners throughout their lives," he points out.

Staver predicts that homosexual divorce will be commonplace because homosexuals only want marriage simply to validate their "abnormal and aberrant lifestyle."

"What we see in Massachusetts is the future of same-sex marriage," says the attorney. "They simply want same-sex marriage -- not to have long-lasting, committed relationships, as they often like to say to the media...."
You'd think that after all the crap these two dykes put the state through just to get "married" that they'd last longer than two years together. Gee, could it be that they were never "in love" in the first place? After all unions solely based on sex almost never last long. Consider too that with Gay being the new Black these days, Mildred and Richard Loving, the couple who put an end to all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in this country, were married 17 years till Richard passed. Legalizing their depravity, that's all the "Goodridges" ever wanted and that idiot Massachusetts Supreme Court gave it to them.

Hilda Solis, Another Obama Appointee, Has Tax Problems

First it was Tim Geitner. Then it was Nancy Killifer. Then Tom Daschle. Now BO's latest Cabinet pick, his choice to head the Department of Labor, Hilda Solis,
has tax problems:
The husband of President Obama's choice to head the Labor Department paid about $6,400 Wednesday to settle tax liens that had been outstanding for as long as 16 years against his business, the Obama administration said Thursday.

The disclosure came shortly before a scheduled 2 p.m. meeting of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which will vote on U.S. Rep. Hilda Solis' nomination as Labor secretary. The hearing was postponed to give the administration time to look into the tax matter and report back to the committee, said Anthony Coley, a spokesman for Sen. Edward Kennedy, the committee chairman. Solis is a California Democrat.

Yeah, he's "screwed up" so much that he keeps making the same mistake over and over. I think it was 3rd grade that I learned that you're supposed to LEARN from your mistakes, not REPEAT them. Billary warned us over and over about Obama's inexperience, too bad she didn't have the guts to warn us about his utter incompetence--she might've won the nomination if she had.

Tom Coburn Takes Away Barack's "Gift" To Hollywood Liberals

Tom Coburn is
my new hero:
Senate Republicans yesterday stripped a special $246 million tax break for Hollywood producers from President Obama's stimulus package.

"This isn't stimulus. This is a gift," said Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), who wrote the amendment to strike out the giveaway for some of the Democrats' most generous political supporters.

"It's not going to stimulate the economy at all," he said. "What it's going to do is line the pockets of very wealthy individuals already not experiencing the downside of the economy."

The 52-45 vote was largely along party lines, with nearly every Republican voting to remove the Hollywood tax break, joined by 13 Democrats and independent Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman.

Under the measure, Hollywood moguls would have been allowed to write off half the production and filming costs of big-budget films and TV shows.

Backed by Walt Disney and the Motion Picture Association of America, the provision amounted to an estimated $246 million tax break over 11 years.

Of course RINO Arlen Specter was one of the few Republicans to sign off on BO's bogus stimulus plan. Specter is an embarrassment, with the likes of his kind the GOP needs Norm Coleman to defeat Al Franken BAD in Minnesota, thank goodness Coleman received some really good news today.

Elizabeth Edwards To Wait And Exploit Affair In New Book

Newsmax.com:
Elizabeth Edwards plans a new book about facing adversity, recapping an often-tumultuous life that most recently included her husband's public disclosure of an affair, her publisher said Tuesday.

The book entitled "Resilience" is to be published on May 12. It comes less than a year after Edwards' husband John publicly acknowledged having an affair with a video producer in the months before he began his second campaign for president.

David Drake, the publicity director at Broadway Books, declined to discuss in detail the contents of the book but said it would serve as a sort of sequel to her previous memoir, "Saving Graces," that was first published in 2006 and updated in 2007.

Drake would not say whether Edwards discusses the affair in her new book.

"We're aware of some of the events that have taken place in her life since then," he said. "She has always been a kind of candid and honest writer, and people can expect that of her in her new book."

Edwards' initial memoir mostly focused on how she coped with the 1996 death of the couple's son Wade and her ongoing battle with breast cancer.

Since the affair announcement in August, Edwards has continued to advocate for health care reform by visiting Congress and making policy speeches. She has yet to discuss the affair in detail and has asked for privacy on the subject.

Surely, Elizabeth's saving "her feelings" on the affair for the book, you can be sure of it because this woman shouldn't be trusted. I mean, Elizabeth Edwards is the same woman who smiled, stood by and said nothing while her husband (who just happened to be running for Democrat primary winner) played "Family Guy," knowing full well that he was having an affair and lying to the American people about it, that is until the National Enquirer caught him out there. John Edwards misled voters as well as financial supporters and Elizabeth Edwards is just as culpable--another stand-by-your-man opportunist in the same vein as Hillary Clinton.

Liberal Ex-Journalists Got Jobs In The Obama Administration

The NYTimes, of all publications, is reporting this:
Republicans have long accused mainstream journalists of being on the payroll of President Obama and the Democratic Party, a common refrain of favoritism especially from those on the losing end of an election (see Bush vs. Gore, Clinton vs. Bush and Bush vs. Dukakis). But this year the accusation has a new twist: In some notable cases it has become true, with several prominent journalists now on the payrolls of Mr. Obama and the Democratic Congressional leadership.

An unusual number of journalists from prominent, mainstream organizations started new government jobs in January, providing new kindling to the debate over whether Mr. Obama is receiving unusually favorable treatment in the news media.

These are not opinionated talkers in the vein of Chris Matthews, the MSNBC host who last year flirted with a run for the Democratic nomination for the Senate - and who more recently said he would do "everything I can to make this thing work" for Mr. Obama.
Rather, they are, for the most part, more traditional journalists from organizations that strive to approach the news with objectivity.

Jay Carney, the new communications director for Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., was, until late last year, the Washington bureau chief at Time magazine, where he covered the campaign and, coincidentally, was a co-author of an article in September titled, "McCain's Bias Claim: Truth or Tactic?"

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the leading candidate for surgeon general, is CNN's chief medical correspondent. His résumé as a practicing neurosurgeon - and one of People magazine's "sexiest men alive" in 2003 - is not that of a traditional journalist. But he reported on the health records of the presidential candidates last year, along with their health care proposals.
Should he get the job, Dr. Gupta will be working for the Department of Health and Human Services, whose prospective assistant secretary for public affairs is Linda Douglass, a longtime network news correspondent who left journalism for Mr. Obama's campaign last spring.

On Capitol Hill, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts has hired Douglas Frantz as his chief investigator on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Mr. Frantz is a former managing editor of The Los Angeles Times and before that was an investigative reporter there, at The New York Times and The Chicago Tribune.
Administration officials report they have had discussions with other print journalists looking for work as their news organizations begin to shed jobs.
In other words, more fuel to the FACT that the Media just elected a President. As that idiot, self-righteous loon Joy Behar would say, all that matters is that "we won".

Michael Steele Quote of the Day!

"It doesn't change with one person, you know. Just because a black man is running the RNC doesn't mean black folks are going to oh, OK, I will be a Republican. Just as with the election of President Obama. All the problems and concerns that are very important to African Americans don't get solved overnight. There is still black businesses that are being red-lined in neighborhoods that are struggling.

So what I think it does do is send the appropriate message that right now at this hour the Republican Party gets it. We are prepared to come into town squares and into town halls and meet with the community, talk about those issues, talk about the differences between us and work to earn their vote. We're not going to seed that opportunity any longer. This mind set they won't vote for us anyway is over. We are going to engage in Iowa to Florida to Nebraska to California, the Northeast. We want to be competitive everywhere. And I think this is a great opportunity to do it. And the conservative message resonates. When we walk away from that message. When we try to do conservative light, that's when we run into trouble."

Marc Rich Helper Eric Holder Confirmed As Attorney General

CNN.com:
The U.S. Senate confirmed Eric Holder as attorney general Monday, voting 75-21 to place him in charge of the Department of Justice.

Holder, 58, is a former federal prosecutor and served as deputy attorney general during the Clinton administration. His confirmation makes him the first African-American confirmed to the post, though he held the job on an acting basis in early 2001.

Monday's vote leaves him set to take over a Justice Department battered by a series of controversies during the Bush administration, from questions about how it laid legal groundwork for harsh interrogations of suspected terrorists to the sackings of top federal prosecutors in several cities.

"There's a big job to do, and it's going to be Mr. Holder's duty to turn this department around and restore its credibility," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-California.

During confirmation hearings, Republicans questioned his role in former President Bill Clinton's widely criticized last-minute pardon of fugitive financier Marc Rich and questioned whether he would be independent of the White House.

All 21 "nays" were by Republicans which means not a single Democrat could even muster a "protest" vote in light of Holder's huge role in Bill Clinton pardoning Marc Rich. Yet, Democrats are the same folks who to this day are still crying foul about former AG Alberto Gonzales' shenanigans. Isn't that just gravy?

How About John Conyers Subpoena His Scandal-Plagued Wife Monica?

As resident liberal and general clown John Conyers continues
his relentless quest to get Karl Rove to testify about some attorneys who were fired 3 years ago that no one but the angry, Bush-hating Left cares about, it's no wonder how distracted he must be from the current shenanigans of his wife:
Detroit City Council President Monica Conyers owes a city pension board more than $5,600 in travel advances, according to pension board records obtained Wednesday.

Conyers initially owed the General Retirement System $7,371.25, but she repaid $1,700 this week.

In a statement, Conyers' office said the pension board records are wrong and that she has yet to be reimbursed for personal frequent flyer miles she used on pension travel.

Pension board trustees get cash advances before they travel and must provide receipts showing how the money was spent. They must repay any money that is unaccounted for.

Apparently, this isn't the only scandal now plaguing Mrs. Conyers:

Detroit City Council President Monica Conyers is not talking when it comes to the Synagro Scandal.

Conyers dismissed reporter questions Wednesday regarding the controversy. The Detroit Free Press has identified Council President Conyers as the "Councilwoman A" who former Synagro exec James Rosendall claims he bribed in order to get a sludge contract.

Council member Barbara Rose-Collins says it's time for the Feds to end the speculation and give clear indication as to who may have been involved.

Council member Kwame Kenyatta is urging any council member who was involved in the scandal to come forward and come clean.

So while John Conyers obsession with Karl Rove goes on and on, the woman he presumably sleeps with every night is involved in scandal after scandal. Aye, the Left and their dubious double standards.
