First of all, who the hell is Diana DeGette? And where's her proof that abstinence-only education don't work? People who run abstinence-only programs care about our youth and are committed to countering the sexual images readily seen on the likes of MTV and BET. Liberals don't like the idea of teenagers not having sex because it makes a dent in Planned Parenthood's profit margin, much less the idea continually promoted by liberals that teenagers are just horny dogs incapable of controlling their hormones. But studies have shown here in the U.S. and overseas that abstinence-only education does work and has in fact lessened sexual activity amongst out young folks. But hey, forget all that because Barry has a white, liberal base that he must cater too, so anything Bush-related just has to go, no matter how positive and effective it was.Unwed teenage mother Bristol Palin might be out there talking about abstinence, but President Obama isn't buying abstinence-only education.
Two $100 million programs from his predecessor's budget pushing abstinence only are casualties in President Obama's $3.55 trillion budget proposal.
The President is replacing them with $110 million “for teenage pregnancy prevention programs that have been proven effective through rigorous evaluation," as spelled out on pages 490 to 495 of the budget appendix.
Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Colo., applauded the move, saying "eliminating funding for ineffective abstinence-only programs is a win for science. The Obama budget proposal invests in programs that are effective and based on sound science, rather than wasting millions of dollars on efforts that have been proven to be ineffective at best."
Palin, meanwhile, told GMA's Chris Cuomo that "regardless of what I did personally, I just think that abstinence is the only way you can effectively, 100 percent foolproof way you can prevent pregnancy."
