Even Robert Redford Thinks Al Gore Is Full Of Shit

Geez, just a couple of weeks ago I nominated this guy for Insane Liberal of the Week, and now he goes off railing against the Goracle. Wonder if Redford reads this blog?

Redford was an early convert to the environmental movement, and talks proudly of having campaigned on it since 1969. "It was not a happy easy time, because those were the days that the oil and gas companies pretty much controlled the show on propaganda. Anyone speaking about solar energy would be smashed down as being a radical, a tree-hugger and granola-cruncher or what have you."

He is notably cynical, however, about Al Gore's recent award of a Nobel Peace Prize. "He's making a lot of money, he's having a belle époque, a heroic moment," he says. "It must have been really hard for Gore to suffer all that [losing the presidential election], so he found another thing to come back with: the environment. He had a lot of money behind him, because in Clinton's administration there was a lot of money. With that he was able to build himself a new campaign and pick an issue. And he picked an issue that just happened to arrive at its moment in time." The less-than-subtle subtext is that Gore is an arriviste, while Redford has been out there, a grizzled loner, bearing the jibes and right-wing clobbering before the environmental cause was fashionable. Asked why he thinks Gore is not going back into politics, he says: "What's most important - to be a hero to your country and go save it . . . or do you want to be happy and rich and be a hero and not get into the political scene?"

Hmmm.....the Goracle, an opportunist? Nah, it just can't be true.

Conservatives Were Right About Stem Cell Research

For the ungodly liberal sect, this bit of news had to be pretty disarming:

Researchers in Wisconsin and Japan said yesterday that they have turned ordinary human skin cells into what are effectively embryonic stem cells without using embryos or women's eggs -- the previously essential ingredients that have embroiled the medically promising field in a nearly decade-long political and ethical debate.

The ability to turn adult cells into embryo-like ones capable of morphing into virtually every kind of cell or tissue, described in two scientific journal articles yesterday, has been a major goal of researchers for years. In theory, it would allow people to grow personalized replacement parts for their bodies from their skin cells and give researchers a powerful means of understanding and treating diseases.

Until now, only human egg cells and embryos, both difficult to obtain and laden with legal and ethical issues, had the mysterious power to turn ordinary cells into stem cells. And until this summer, the challenge of mimicking that process in the lab seemed almost insurmountable, leading many to wonder whether stem cell research would ever unload its political baggage.

As news of the success spread in recent days, stem cell scientists seemed almost giddy that their field could suddenly become like other areas of biomedical science: appreciated, eligible for federal funding and wide open for new waves of discovery.

Thanks to our President, who twice vetoed liberal attempts to force gov't spending for embryonic stem-cell research, we now have conclusive evidence that stem-cell research can be done in an effective and ethical manner. Let the Godless eat crow.

Did Oprah Winfrey Have Something To Do With Donda West's Death?

News is coming out that Oprah Winfrey may've introduced Kanye West's mother to Dr. Jan Adams, the man who botched the surgery that led to the death of Donda West:
Oprah Winfrey denies she is the one who introduced Dr. Donda West to Dr. Jan Adams, the surgeon who operated on West hours before her death.

In a statement to Access Hollywood, a rep for Oprah dispelled reports that the talk show queen had introduced the two.

“Absolutely untrue. Oprah did not introduce Dr. West to Dr. Adams,” the statement read.

The rep added Oprah neither introduced, nor recommended, the two and that the last time Oprah had spoken to Dr. West was April 27, 2005, when she had Dr. West and her son on the show.

However, earlier in the day, a source told Access Hollywood that Dr. Adams was, in fact, one of two doctors Oprah recommended to West. The source claimed Oprah also recommended a doctor in Chicago.

Hmmm, now how interesting is that? And we're supposed to believe that Oprah and Kanye's mom never touched base again? Of course, Dr. West, who walked off the set of "Larry King" yesterday because he was afraid to have his medical license revoked, has a past so notorious that you'd have to wonder if it's his celebrity that's been keeping out of jail.
In 2001, Adams paid out more than $500,000 in lawsuits, state medical records show. Three other malpractice cases against Adams filed in Orange County are pending. The Medical Board of California is also investigating whether Adams' license should be revoked or suspended after two alcohol-related arrests in the past four years, records show.
Now I know that many on the Right are going to have time sympathizing with Kanye West, what with his infamous "George Bush doesn't care about black people" quip still in the back of their mind. But what's wrong is wrong and where there's smoke there's usually fire. Jan West has long been promoted by the media as some kind of "expert" of plastic surgery, a billion-dollar industry that exploits society's obsession with looks. Yet when you consider Dr. West criminal past, he should've been locked up, not performing surgery on people, much less Donda West, who from all accounts I've seen was a very charming, loving and gregarious woman. Yet, for many people who consider plastic surgery the "quick-fix" appeal of the operation overrides the risks involved. Indeed, even the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) says that patients need to do more research before undergoing plastic surgery. Sorry to say it, but I get the feeling that this tragic case involving Donda West is far from over.

Mitt Romney Passes Giuliani In New Hampshire

From New Hampshire there's good news for Mitt Romney:

The WMUR-CNN poll of likely Republican voters conducted by the University of New Hampshire shows Romney with 33 percent support, up from 25 percent in the same poll in September. Giuliani has declined, slipping to 16 percent compared to 24 percent in September.

Those polled also described Romney as the most likely to win the nomination, with 39 percent choosing him and 26 percent saying Giuliani could go the distance.

Just 8 percent said John McCain has what it takes to win the nomination, but 18 percent of voters said they would vote for him, the same as in September. Although his support has remained steady, McCain has moved into second place because of Giuliani's slide.

Giuliani is now third choice among Republicans, behind both Romney and McCain, in that state. The poll results are here. Makes you wonder if Rudy's continued arrogance/exploitation of 9/11 and the recent indictment of Bernard Kerik are taking an effect on voters. God, I sure hope so.

Borat Backs Barack Obama

Oh, you just gotta' love those celebrity endorsements . . . either way this dude is still funny:
"I cannot believe that it possible a woman can become Premier of US and A - in Kazakhstan, we say that to give a woman power, is like to give a monkey a gun - very dangerous. We do not give monkeys guns any more in Kazakhstan ever since the Astana Zoo massacre of 2003 when Torkin the orang-utan shoot 17 schoolchildrens. I personal would like the basketball player, Barak Obamas to be Premier."

Howard Dean: Insane Liberal of the Week

Age:
59

Birthplace: Town of East Hampton, New York

Claim To Fame: former governor of Vermont and current chairman of the DNC

Why’s He’s The Dumbest Liberal of the Week: for using secular theology in a public speech earlier this week. At a gathering of Jewish leaders, while advocating for prayer teams in public schools, Dean said that there are no impediments for anyone to go to heaven.

His statement was a call for inclusion to the “evangelical” and Jewish groups in the Democratic party. Dean, in attempting show differences between the Republican and Democratic parties, said “that there are no bars to heaven for anybody.” Of course, this kind of “God loves everybody no matter what you do” dogma is typical of liberals who seem to think that seeking forgiveness or following the words of the Bible are a waste of time and effort.

But Dean, who often invokes his brand of religion in his public tirades, should be ashamed of himself for making a statement that when it comes down to it, ridicules Christianity. Yet, coming from Dean we shouldn’t be surprised. After all this is the same man who once characterized Republicans as “religiously and racially exclusive” vs. the inclusion found in the Democratic Party. Any wonder why Dean’s 2004 Presidential-run turned out to be such a flop? It’s because outside of Vermont he’s viewed as nothing but a moron.
