Michelle Malkin Leads The Right-Wing Mafia In Betraying President Bush

Champion xenophobe Michelle
Malkin sees President Bush's immigration plan as the end of the world as we know it.

Surprisingly
, so does Rush Limbaugh. But give him credit because Rush doesn't just whine, he offers his own solutions.

Right-wing talk-show host Michael Savage:
"President Bush Is A Liberal"

LaShawn Barber:
"George Bush Is An Idiot"

Ann Coulter:
"Bush's America: Roach Motel"

Laura Ingraham:
"Save Our Country Now"

The above serve as examples of the kinds of over-the-top rhetoric coming from those on the far Right regarding President Bush's proposed immigration plan (or as the nutjobs call it: "amnesty"). Just like their brethren on the far Left, when they
don't get their way, they whine, scream, hurl insults, pout, cry and hold their breathe till they're blue in the face. Do they care that the deportation of all illegal immigrants would cost the U.S. trillions? Of course not. Do they bother to mention that they're anointed "saint" Ronald Reagan also sought a compromise on handling illegal immigration? Of course not. Do any of them have any concrete, viable, plans of their own regarding illegal immigration? Of course not. Do they care that illegal immigration wasn't a problem created by President Bush, but has served as a sore spot in the American landscape for decades now? Of course not. (Dare someone speak on NAFTA's role in all of this.) Do they care that most Americans (including Republicans) support a temporary worker program as long as immigrants pay taxes and obey the law? Of course not. Any wonder why the Republican party still has a racist stigma attached to it? It starts with yahoos like Malkin.

Disagree with Bush all you want, but selling him out on one, albeit contentious, issue just proves that when it comes down to doing what's best for America, the far Right could care less.
Thank goodness, most conservatives haven't been so quick to forget all that our President has done for us and our country. (h/t: Dee @ Conservatism With Heart)

Person of the Week: Bob Barker

Age:
83

Birthplace:
Darrington, Washington

Claim To Fame:
longtime host of the longest running daytime game show in television history, "The Price Is Right"

Why He's This Week's Person of the Week:
because after 35 years of hosting "The Price Is Right", today he's finally hanging up his skinny microphone for good.
Yet, or me, this is sad news because as a kid I literally grew up on "The Price Is Right", a show that taught me more about finance and capitalism than anything I ever learned in elementary school. And the always dapper Bob Barker was one of my favorite teachers, expertly segueing from enthusiastically giving away another new car to consoling losers who just couldn't guess the right price on that box of Kraft Macaroni and Noodles. No one could do it better.

Yet, Barker’s achievements outside of "The Price Is Right" are just as impressive as his longtime tenure on the show. He went to Drury College on a basketball scholarship, graduated summa cum laude, served as a fighter pilot in the Navy during World War II, married his high-school sweetheart, has a black belt in martial arts, was a fervent supporter of animal rights, a vegetarian since 1979 and in 1987 he famously embraced his gray hair and stopped using hair dye (many years later Jeopardy host Alex Trebek would follow his lead). Granted, Barker was far from perfect (as the many lawsuits filed by a variety of "Barker Beauties" can attest), but he sure did look the part.

If you grew up a fan of "The Price Is Right" like I did then don't miss Barker's last show which will air in its usual spot during the daytime and later on in the evening. Word has it that CBS will also run a highlight show with Barker reminiscing about his past 35 years on the game show in the near future.

Death To Pornographers In Iran

Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi

Nice to see martial law back in full effect:

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of a bill that could lead to the death penalty for persons convicted of working in the production of pornographic movies.

With a 148-5 vote in favor and four abstentions, lawmakers present at the Wednesday session of the 290-seat parliament approved that "producers of pornographic works and main elements in their production are considered corrupter of the world and could be sentenced to punishment as corrupter of the world."

The term, "corrupter of the world" is taken from the Quran, the Muslims' holy book, and ranks among the highest on the scale of an individual's criminal offenses. Under Iran's Islamic Penal Code, it carries a death penalty.

The "main elements" referred to in the draft include producers, directors, cameramen and actors involved in making a pornographic video.

The bill also envisages convictions ranging from one year imprisonment to a death sentence for the main distributors of the movies and also producers of Web sites in which the pornographic works appear.

Every country has a different way of treating pornography but this beyond extreme. And while it’s banned in India, interestingly enough there was talk in the US of putting a sin tax on pornography. Utah did this in 2004 and in July 2005 Kansas State legislators were interested in imposing a 25% tax on such products/services, but I don't believe that anything came of it.

With Katie Couric The Ratings Speak For Themselves

Here's the deal. Last time I checked Katie Couric was a grown-ass woman (and she sure as hell gets paid like one). And when you're cashing huge paychecks every 1st and 15th of the month that Couric does, the people who hired you have a right to expect and demand results. And so far in her gig as CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric has failed miserably in getting results, so much so it's literally become embarrassing. Those are the facts. It's not about being sexist. It's about a company paying an employee a shitload of money and getting little to nothing in return--Business 101 could tell you what a bad move that is. And we all know that if she didn't happen to be named Katie Couric, CBS wouldn't be trying to come up with lame excuses in defense of her. So mind you, despite the fact that I can't stand Dan Rather, but he's totally on point here:

After initial excitement about Couric's move from her spot as co-host of NBC's "Today" show to the nightly news, the broadcast quickly slipped again to trail its competitors.

Talking via phone to Joe Scarborough on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," Rather described Couric as a "nice person" - then let her have it.

Speculating on the program's declining ratings, Rather said, "The mistake was to try to bring the 'Today' show ethos to the 'Evening News' and to dumb it down - tart it up in hopes of attracting a younger audience."

Then in a kinder vein, he said Couric "tried to change networks, which is always difficult, and change the programs at the same time." Then he opened fire again.

He said the program "trend line" continues to lean toward excessive and overdone celebrity coverage.

Dennis Miller Quote of the Day!

"To quote the great Stephen Boyd, the constant bring-down, from “We killed the Patriot Act,” to “We’ll gain House seats,” to his magnum opus “We’ve lost the war,” Reid has been unrelentingly bleak in his appraisal of the conflict of our lifetime. I think he believes that getting his negative comments in early could be the one chance that a nonentity like he has at a place in history."

- comedian Dennis Miller on Democrat Senator Harry Reid

NRA Uses Common Sense For A Change

I'll never be a fan of the NRA and the Dems need to do whatever they can to get the Tiahrt Amendment overturned, but this bit of news is still a step in the right direction:
Senior Democrats have reached agreement with the National Rifle Association on what could be the first federal gun-control legislation since 1994, a measure to significantly strengthen the national system that checks the backgrounds of gun buyers.

The sensitive talks began in April, days after a mentally ill gunman killed 32 students and teachers at Virginia Tech University. The shooter, Seung Hui Cho, had been judicially ordered to submit to a psychiatric evaluation, which should have disqualified him from buying handguns.

But the state of Virginia never forwarded that information to the federal National Instant Check System (NICS), and the massacre exposed a loophole in the 13-year-old background-check program.

Carrot -and-stick proposal
Under the agreement, participating states would be given monetary enticements for the first time to keep the federal background database up to date, as well as penalties for failing to comply.
