Mary Winkler Gets Seven Months For Murdering Husband

Call it another victory for the Neo-Nazi, we-hate-all-men, modern-day feminist:
(AP) A woman who killed her preacher husband with a shotgun blast to the back as he lay in bed was sentenced Friday to three years in prison, but she may end up serving only 60 days in a mental hospital.

Mary Winkler must serve 210 days, or about seven months, of her sentence before she can be released on probation, but she gets credit for the five months she has already spent in jail, Judge Weber McCraw said.
That leaves only two months, and McCraw said up to 60 days of the sentence could be served in a facility where she could receive mental health treatment. That means Winkler may not serve any significant time in prison.

Winkler, 33, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in April and could have received up to six years for killing her husband, Matthew, in the parsonage where the family lived in March 2006.

At her trial she testified she was physically and emotionally abused by her husband, but at her sentencing hearing Friday she said, “I think of Matthew every day, and I'll always miss him and love him.”
No record or physical signs of domestic abuse. No attempt to ever flee her supposedly "dangerous" husband or even any record to get a restraining order to protect her and her kids from his alleged "abuse". No record from any witnesses that there was even trouble in the marriage of this church-going couple. Yet, Mary Winkler gets seven months for shooting the father of her kids in the back and killing him while he was sleeping.

Our criminal justice system.

What a joke.

Person of the Week: Kristen Byrnes

Age:
16

Hometown: Portland, Maine

Claim To Fame: High-school student and science enthusiast who started her own website
with the sole goal of rebutting Al "The Mad Scientist" Gore and other global warming terrorists.

Why She's Person of the Week: While most high-school students could probably care less about global warming, this hasn't stopped Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" from being shown in many high schools across America (you know how liberals love to exploit the innocent, young and precocious members of our species). Yet, for Kristen Byrnes, upon recently seeing Gore's hypefest, enough quickly became enough. Bothered, amongst other things, by the sloppy science
in the movie, Kristen created her own Web site for her Earth Science class and goes on to rip the global-warming-caused-by-man theory to shreds, even taking on Dr. James Hansen, noted "father of global warming".

Kristen's website looks at global warming “without financial and political bias.” As she states, “I will demonstrate that the Earth’s warming climate is a result of natural variance and that man-made changes in the warming climate in the last 40 years are negligible at best. I will insert pieces of the puzzle from new scientific studies that were not available or were ignored in previous global warming studies.

“I add a possible piece of the puzzle, nuclear weapons testing in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, that may have made a small contribution to cooling at that time. After reviewing numerous scientific studies and observing data, it is clear that the theory that “man-made increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide are causing global warming” is not likely.” Good stuff! Indeed, with a liberal media being completely duped by Al Gore and his limousine liberal pals in Hollywood, it's good to see that even a 16-year-old can see past the bullshit and get down to the facts.

Where's The News Coverage For Stepha Henry?

If you pay any attention to these kind of things than you're long aware of the deal: a missing, pretty, white girl will receive far more attention from the national news media than their black counterparts (think back to Tamika Huston or LaToyia Figueroa). And like Kelsey Smith, the Kansas teenager who recently vanished after going shopping at a local Target, Stepha Henry has apparently vanished without a trace and Henry’s loved ones are very concerned about her whereabouts--just like Smith's loved ones were until her alleged killer was caught thanks in part to the huge amount of attention Smith's case got from the media--thanks in part to Kelsey Smith being young, pretty and white.

Yet it’s been a week since Stepha Henry went missing and her story hasn’t garnered a tenth of the national spotlight captured by Kelsey Smith, Natalee Hollaway (who still makes news to this day), Laci Peterson or even Jennifer Wilbanks (whom, as we all know ended up to be nothing but a deranged lunatic, much less a liar) in the days following their respective disappearances. The story about Henry, a 22-year-old college grad and honors student from New York City, appeared in my local paper for the first time the other day, nearly a week after she was reported missing:

An aspiring Brooklyn lawyer mysteriously disappeared a week ago while visiting a relative in Miami, and her family is sick with worry.

Stepha Henry, 22, an honors graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice, flew to Florida on May 24 for a reggae concert.

But she hasn't been seen since May 29 - the day she was supposed to return home, Miami cops said.

"She has never done anything like this. We are very worried. We love her and just want her home," said Henry's mother, Sylvia, from her home in East New York.

Miami cops said Henry was last seen leaving her aunt Carletha Clarke's home on Northwest 191st St. with an unknown man about 1 a.m. She was on her way to a Fort Lauderdale dance club called Club Peppers when she stepped into a black sedan, possibly a four-door Acura. She was wearing a black jumper with a white tank top, Miami cops said.

"We are shocked by this. This is not the Stepha we know to disappear like this," said Richard Saulnier, assistant vice president for enrollment management at John Jay.

Henry, who graduated last year with a major in criminal justice and a minor in psychology, was one of only two students chosen to be a presidential aide to John Jay President Jeremy Travis while she was a senior, Saulnier said.

"She was chosen because of her academic record and the type of person she is," Saulnier said, describing Henry as "terrific" and "caring."

Henry had been working as an administrative assistant for Saulnier and studying for the law school entrance exam.

She is black, has red hair and brown eyes and is about 5-feet-2 and 110 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477 or NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

Why Giuliani Leads In the Polls

Ok, maybe it's because in the eyes of many he'll forever be "America's Mayor", not right, but for now it is what it is. Yet regardless of all his weaknesses, I honestly think that Rudy's biggest strength is that when he looks across at his competition, he's sees them for what they are: pretty weak. And that's why he won last night's GOP debate with ease: he's more experienced and he comes to the show better prepared. Then too Rudy sees an opening (i.e. a field of candidates so lame that even Tommy Thompson is still hanging around) he knows how to exploit the hole and gain significant yardage:

First, he plays up the New Hampshire crowd:

I’m Rudy Giuliani. I agree with the motto of your state, “Live free or die.” And I think it would be a pretty good one for our time.

Then some straight talk on Saddam and the war on terror:

It’s unthinkable that you would leave Saddam Hussein in charge of Iraq and be able to fight the war on terror. And the problem is that we see Iraq in a vacuum. Iraq should not be seen in a vacuum. Iraq is part of the overall terrorist war against the United States.

Finally, he tells conservatives and anti-liberals like myself exactly what we want to hear about Scooter Libby's sentence:

I think the sentence was way out of line. I mean, the sentence was grossly excessive in a situation in which at the beginning, the prosecutor knew who the leak was and he knew a crime wasn’t committed.

John McCain Quote Of The Day!

"I will never conduct my campaign in such a way that it makes our country's most difficult challenges harder to solve. I hope you will hold all candidates to that same standard. Pandering for votes on this issue, while offering no solution to the problem, amounts to doing nothing. And doing nothing is silent amnesty . . .
The president knows. He spent eight years as governor of Texas. The Republican Party must address this issue, if, in my part of the country, we expect to attract Hispanic voters."

- Republican Senator John McCain vehemently pledging his support for President Bush's proposed immigration bill

Sunday Book Spotlight: "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed"

Words from the Publisher's Katharine Debrecht & Jim Hussel:

Would you let your child read blatantly liberal stories with titles such as "King & King;" "No, George, No;" or "It's Just a Plant?"

Unless you live in Haight-Ashbury or write for the New York Times, probably not. But with the nation's libraries and classrooms filled with overtly liberal children's books advocating everything from gay marriage to marijuana use, kids everywhere are being deluged with left-wing propaganda.

"Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed" is the book conservative parents have been seeking. This illustrated book -- the first in the "Help! Mom!" series from Kids Ahead -- is perfect for parents who seek to share their traditional values with their children, as well as adults who wish to give a humorous gift to a friend.

Praised by Rush Limbaugh and hailed as "the answer to a baseball mom's prayers" by talk radio host Melanie Morgan, this book has already been the subject of coverage in The Wall Street Journal and Harper's magazine. Written by a self-proclaimed "Security Mom for Bush" and featuring hilarious full-color illustrations by a Reuben Award winning artist, it is certain to be one of the most talked about children's books of the year.
